Whats the best all time movie music?
Vanity | September 17th2004 | Vanity

What's the best movie music of all time? John Williams and Star Warsor all the hits from Chicagohow about Joplin's rags from The Sting or the opening scene from 2001? I know I like the renditions of the Navy Hymn from The Perfect Storm you have to be hard hearted not to get a lump in your throat during that scene, and the rendition in The Crimson Tide. So Drama, musicals, Comedies, chick flicks, westerns, SciFi, etc. which movie has the best music? What's your vote?

So what's your favorite line from The Good The Bad and The Ugly?

That of course is another thread which I think has been done more than once.

My personal favorite: the Nam sequences in Born on the Fourth of July. Incredible.

"HA HA HA, I'm the ryder on the lawn mower with a coffee cup."

Good enough for me, I'll trade you for about six on the team, UNLESS you too changed equipment this week.

Haha! I have several candidates that tie for # 1, I suppose:

Tuco: "Whoever double-crosses me and leaves me alive, he understands nothing about Tuco."

Tuco : [trying to read a note] "See you soon, id..." "id..." "ids..."
Blondie : "Idiots". It's for you.

Angel Eyes: "When I'm paid, I always follow my job through. You know that."

Blondie: "You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig." (I also like Tuco's earlier version of 'two kinds of people')

And of course Tuco's great advice for life: "When you have to shoot, shoot, don't talk."

"Jerusalem",I think, is a rather old hymn, used in countless movies. It's almost the British "America".

Yes, I know. And it was played at the Reagan funeral--live--while I think the WWSoldiers piece was a recording.

"That's not a song from a movie, though, it's a well-known British hymn--Jerusalem--USED in a movie."

"Really? I feel lied to. All the time it was called the Theme from Chariots of Fire!"

The Theme to COF is a piano/synth/percussion instrumental; Vangelis added some synth washes to Jerusalem for its use in the film. I've got several recordings of Jerusalem, some quite old. One version is robustly sung live by the audience at a New year's Eve concert after Auld Langsine (however it's spelled).

"I think it was all live."

Nope. The singers weren't singing during the WWS song, and the orchestral break was precisely as in the movie...yet they didn't show anyone playing instruments, either.

On the other hand, during Jerusalem, most of the shots were of the choir.
