Hellow man, Don`t mind my bad English. Firstly I want to make clear that the berber(we call oure self Amazigh) wich means free people are NOT Lybians!! There are berber tribes in Libia butt that is it. I am from berber origin (Atlas Mountains Morocco) now living in Holland. I am trying to search my identity. I red some artikels obout the Picts Living in Scotland that I found very interesting. I also red in another artikel written by a Scottish missionary, he wrote the article "The Berber oure distant cousins". I know that the Scottish people are a proud an heroic race that are not afraid. The berber are known for this also. Is Sean Connary ( I probably spelled it wrong) typically Scot because he lookes very much 100% like my grand father. I am not kidding. There are many berbers in my environment that look a lot like Scots. There are a lot of stories about Picts and Berbers. In the article from the Scot above was mentioned a tale about a Scot sailor that stranded(1850 +/-) at the coast of Morocco(were berber live) The custom of the berber was to kill every body who was strange to them. And what happened the berbers did not killed the scot. He was able to communicate with them. And he learned the berber a lot off crafts. He lived his whole life with these people and is considerd a Saint. The place Mogador was named after him. A missionary who travelled to morocco at that time met the Scot an identified his language as an old Gealic dialect. The missionary later travelled back and wrote the story named "the berber oure distant cousins". The missionary did some research about Scottisch names of the 7 greates tribes like Mac Donald etc. and found out that the biggest berber tribes living in the atlas mountains have almost the same names and also start the name with the distict Mac = M` I remember Mac Doughlas = M`Dougha I probably got the names wrong. The thing is that I lost the article that is very important for me and maybe for scots also. Anyhow does any wone off you knows more about this? Or have a different explenation why my grandfather lookes like oo7 Sean Connery??? Azul(berber for hellow)
What about Glen Rothes ? Any fans of that foine drink? I like it better than Macallan 12.

So...your suspicions are not unrealistic, IMO.
Comment #18 has a good link. #12 was not working. It was the righteous anger of the Berber inhabitants of the Nafusa Mountains which helped turn the tide against Ghaddafi. Like Arabs before him he had tried to subvert their culture and language. I believe their language was forbidden in schools and even literature may have been banned. Perhaps our poster can clarify that. The Berbers are a bit like the Kurds being distributed in a number of countries, and no doubt causing anxiety for various governments.
I have an interesting book called “In Plain Sight: Old World Records in Ancient America,” by Gloria Farley. It includes an Appendix with a number of ancient scripts provided by the author or by linguist Dr. Barry Fell, which compare Numidian, Tifinagh, Maghrib, and other old writing. At least some of the unrest in Western Libya may be the result of Berbers wanting to retain the power they have regained.
Regarding Scots and Berbers, Scots are Celtic peoples. Old sources refer to Celt-Iberians, and Scots were Celts. Since Berbers were in Spain until they were kicked out around 1500, there are probably Berbers with Celt-Iberian blood. Also, a surprising number of Scots seem to have some traces of Neanderthal. Sean Connery looks nothing like my late husband who had the red hair, clear blue eyes and heavy boned massive body that makes me suspect he had a few Neanderthal genes. He was a definite physical type I have seen among the Scots. But like many peoples, Scots have a number of ethnic components.

Pure Berber came in from General Chat, and I was pinged by Sunken Civ, for being on his GGG list which covers archaelogy/anthropology type topics. Also some of us became interested in the Berber situation as we followed the details of the Libyan uprising. Regarding Celts or Picts, if you look at my slightly earlier comment can you identify my husband as being one or the other?
A little side note. September 17th is known as Constitution Day. This purebeeber post comes in on September 17th, 2004 ... Constitution Day.
There is NO POST, written in sincere conscience, that is out of place here. I found this most interesting.
Coincidentally I have been thinking along these lines myself lately. Gazing into the mirror, I realized that a lot of people of Scottish ancestry have very thick, dark, coarse, bushy eyebrows, as do many North Africans, Portuguese, and Spaniards. I suspect that at least a portion of Scottish DNA is linked to all of those others; remember, there was an ice-age refugium in western Iberia and adjacent North Africa.
p.s. I know a man in DC who is half Scottish and half Berber. I bet he’d have a lot to say about this.
I agree, and I hope the original poster made out okay. I looked at his posting history, and did not see anything beyond the original 2004 date.
