The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I hope he checks in soon... the hurricane's pretty much gone from his part of FL, right?

Yeah but it'll take time to get everything back on line.

~sigh~

Yes, it is a good thing that the season is over. And...er...no...wife convinced me I should hang on for one more season to complete the transition from the old guard to the new guard.

Next year we start completely fresh without any of the dead wood that caused problems in years past (and we ain't hiring their daughter as a lifeguard neither).

I'm ready to be done with it, but we've made so much progress that I need to see it through. Today we ended the season, and even with another payroll and miscellaneous bills, we have enough cash on hand to make it until opening day next year. That's the first time that has happened in the 8 years we've lived in the neighborhood.

Granted, we still have a hugh debt against the property, but we had that before. This time we've managed our cash flow well enough to survive without increasing the debt.

Well, sounds like you're doing the right thing, even if it means more work for you...

LOL--I had a wierd thought once that the cosmos as we know it might just be the latest in a series of creation cycles--and that the work of the redeemed in the afterlife might be as craftsmen in building the next one (for those who understand, think "Magrathea").

And that while in good Baptist fashioned no one is "more" saved than anyone else, the better behaved among us might be awarded work on big mountains and ocean critters, while the lesser of us would be put to work on lava production or polishing river pebbles...all 500 trillion trillion of 'em...

Of course, I don't really believe all that, but it was a thought to explore at the time.

Can you tell it's late, and I'm tired, and really shouldn't be posting anything?

Good night. Prayers for the Florida members.

Yeah, I gotta watch it on the food intake too.
This dodging hurricane stuff has been making me nervous, eating ice cream and stuff.

Ok, going to get a glass of water to take to bed.

Good night, everyone.
ksen should be OK, I hope and pray. Also, I hope his home isn't all broken up like some in that area are.

Well, you'll feel better handing it over to someone else once all the problems have been handled. You'll feel like you've done a good job then, and you SHOULD feel that way! You've worked very hard to get that place in shape!

You tell him, Suzi...

sigh... am feeling vey guilty about skipping church Sunday, and also sad that I haven't found a church I'm comfortable with yet. It's hard when you're as picky as I am!

I'm almost ready to give up and go to any Presby church that has a decent ratio of hymns sung... and no wimmin preachers...

Have you already checked out all the Presby. churches in town?

Both of the ones of "acceptable" denominations. There are a number of PCUSA... but they tend to be liberal. They ordain women, and "marry" gays (my dad calls them the "lesbo-presbos", although I understand individual churches can be conservative.

There might be a reformed Baptist or two, but I don't know about them either. The two Presby churches I tried had lousy preaching and one just sang psalms. Acapella. I can't take that. I miss my pastor, and our organ and hymns.

Yeah, um, nobody ever wonders where I got my twisted sense of humor.... same place I got everything else... it's kind of a family joke how much I'm like Dad, actually.

Yawn... bedtime. Tomorrow's Tuesday. Thank goodness, this Monday wasn't bad at all. Hafta get up early tomorrow to watch the anime I'm downloading right now...

Ok everyone, I'm here and everyone's ok.

On Thursday we all evacuated to Savannah, GA and were able to get a hotel room in downtown Savannah, a beautiful place, but a little touchy at night. The kids loved it because they spent the days in the pool. What should have normally been a 5 hour drive was a 10-11 hour drive, *bleagh*.

On Saturday I had had enough and Frances wasn't going to hit as a category 4 so we decided to drive home and tough it out there. That may not have been the best decision in my life as we really started to hit some "interesting" weather just south of Daytona Beach, about 80 miles from home. We pulled over once to wait out a pretty bad rain squall but other than that and a bit of wind (Ha!) we made it home safe and sound just as the eye-wall was making landfall.

We got to my in-law's house and they still had power so we watched news coverage. I went to bed around 2:30am and we finally lost power shortly after that. My house didn't sustain any damage, which we were very thankful for, but my in-law's house lost a bunch of shingles and most of the pieces of their roof under the eaves.

Yesterday and Sunday were spent picking up and raking and sawing trees.

As of today we still have no power, water that needs to be boiled, and no phone. The no phone part really bothers me because I have NEVER heard of losing your phone.....especially for going on three days!

Well, I'm at work in Orlando now and am getting ready to take my first hot shower since Saturday.....I'm feeling kind of Dwarfy at the moment.

So thanks for all your prayers! Please continue to pray that electric and phone get turned back on soon. Last I heard there were still 200,000 without power in Brevard County.
