Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Pass them by! Pass them by!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

'Return of the King' extends DVD feature
By Brett Sporich
The Dec. 14 home video release of director Peter Jackson's extended version of the Academy Award-winning "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" will feature 50 additional minutes of new footage, a new musical score and a cameo appearance of Jackson being felled by an arrant arrow.
The 200-minute best picture theatrical version of "King" home video has sold more than 10 million combined DVD and VHS units since its May 25 release, according to several industry sources.
The two previous home video extended version releases "Fellowship of the Ring" and "The Two Towers" have sold about 5 million combined DVD and VHS units each, generating high sales expectations for the $39.99 extended "King" release.
"With even more added footage than the special extended editions of 'The Fellowship of the Ring' and 'The Two Towers,' this new version of 'The Return of the King' is truly a landmark cinematic experience," New Line Home Entertainment president and chief operating officer Stephen Einhorn said.
NLHE's "King" extended four-disc DVD and double-cassette VHS will feature 300 additional special effects shots and scenes among the 50 additional minutes of never-before-seen footage, giving the new extended version movie a 250-minute run time.
The limited collector's DVD edition of the "King" extended version includes a fifth disc that reveals a 52-minute feature titled "Howard Shore: Creating the Lord of the Rings Symphony -- A Composers Journey Through Middle-Earth," which includes excerpts of live concert footage of the Lord of the Rings Symphony recorded with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, along with hand-painted polystone sculpture of Minas Tirith and its accompanying keep-sake box.
All DVD and VHS extended versions of "King" will be featured in a widescreen format with Dolby Digital EX 5.1 Surround Sound, DTS ES 6.1 Surround Sound and stereo surround sound.
The extended version DVD also includes four audio commentaries -- one from Jackson -- and three others that include cast and production crew members including: Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Orlando Bloom and Academy Award-winners Richard Taylor, Howard Shore, Randy Cook and others.
A double cassette VHS version of the extended of "King" will carry a suggested retail price of $24.99, and the DVD four-disc boxed set will carry a $24.99 suggested retail price.

Heard a chopper just now...it was a long ways off and I ran out and watched it go by off in the distance...
Neighbor kid yelled at me "It's a military helicopter!" I said "Yes...it's called a Chinook."
"No it's not!" says he..."It's a MILITARY HELICOPTER!"
"Yessir..."says I..."and THAT military helicopter is called a CHINOOK!!!"
"Oh." says he.
Five-year olds...bah! They think they know everything!

He's a little monster right now...his parents give him everything he wants and are those types that try to reason with their kid before he was old enough to be reasonable...and of course he always won the battles. They'd just give in.
He is perhaps the most demanding and insulting kid I've ever met. It's not his fault, but I try to be firm but still kind. I'm the only person that he knows that has "rules".
I don't know how he goes to school...his folks have him up all hours. Ever since he was tiny!

Sad thing is...kids with rules are generally much happier than the "whatever you want, honey" kinda kids. It's NICE having bounderies! Much more comfortable.
I know a lot of kids like that, though. They have no concept of respect for authority.

That's cuz they never got their butts whooped as little kids... spare the rod and spoil the child.

If one of y'all with some 'puter techie knowledge isn't busy as two cats or enjoying a well-deserved adult beverage, I'd appreciate some advice. I am out of my depth at the moment, and quite un-guy-like, am asking directions :)

Fire away. Can't guarantee I'll do any good, but I welcome a break from pointerss and other NASTY c crap.
I don't suppose anyone here has extensive c with MPI programming experience and is willing to help?

I'm writing up my problem in another windaw and will send it shortly. Thanx!

I'm rebuilding a computer. Doing quite well actually; everything works...I think. Windows XP is on board, pushed along by a 1 GHz processor (PIII, I think...it's somebody's old one), and appears to be operating nominally. However...
I have a USB 2.0 card marked FS-MEG-ALI, which functioned well in its previous installation...in a 500 MHz AMD machine that dragged WinXP around like Marley's Chains. In the new machine it (a) causes it to turn on if inserted into the slot when turned off, and (b) the computer will not shut down with the card installed, but recycles as though you had selected "Restart".
