Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Pass them by! Pass them by!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

We always talk about moving when this sort of thing happens (this would be the third time in 10 years if it happens again)...but we've always been just talk (well, I did move 30 miles last time). If it happens again maybe we finally will just head off somewhere with a little more sunshine, dryer but still with mountains. Who knows? We've kind of thought about it. I wanna do the low-key Hobbit type thing after all the really stressful jobs I've had over the years. But it never seems to work that way.

Dear Kimberly,
I got your packages, thanks a bunch. The guys and I want to let you know how much we appreciated the food and candy. The honey goes great with the Hojii (Ha-gee) bread. The magazines are already being read and re-read. That should tell you that we really are bored. All we do is eat, sleep, play games and hope that an aircraft comes in for fuel and ordnance. The last 2 seem to never happen. So much for losing a few pounds here.
I seem to have adopted a puppy. She is the cutest thing I hope she makes it till I leave here so I can bring her home with me. Dont tell my mom, she will kill me.
Anyway, it is shower time and I dont want to miss the hot water. Tell everyone thanks for everything. I will try to keep in touch.
Love ya,
Debra

g'night, Ruthy!
Been working a bunch today... and made some Chicken Cacciatore in the crock pot for dinner. Time for a shower, and then to watch the South Parks I downloaded the other day.

Colorado's nice, lots of sunshine and mountains too, plus less liberal than where you are...

I was just in Denver at the beginning of the month and was highly impressed. I could live there very easily.
To: Scott from the Left Coast
Yeah, you wouldn't want to live in Boulder (it's the Berkeley of Colorado) but Denver, or up here in Fort Collins, is pretty sane and nice for living.
I could easily see living here forever.

Encouraging post; thanks!

It's not that bad a place to be twentysomething, either. Lots of bookstores and such.

You know I told y'all that the condo where we usually stay for SSQ's family reunion was on Perdido Key? Here's a picture of the East Wing of the place. I'm so sad about it! The whole place may have to come down, because the other wings may be just as compromised. I read in an article that the building had shifted a foot just today!

Someone just posted the info about that emergency drill on our state homeschool message board. My response was "Good Grief, are we that much of a threat?" I guess the answer is YES!
