Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Anybody going to be taking a Hobbit Hole knife, just-in-case?
So... Bear... how long until our millionth post?
If'n you're going to give Ann anything, it oughta be a cheeseburger. Or six.
ROTFL..
Or cookies. Lots of cookies, and not the Hobbit Hole kind.
Ugh, I had to help someone today who looked like an Ann Coulter clone and acted like she's a rank better than the rest of us grad students (because she's a junior instructor rather than "just" an assistant) and so her problem was more important than anyone else's... I ended up laughing at her (behind her back) because her problem was something she, as the teacher for the intro Java course, should know, it was about setting up her programming enviroment!
Hmm, I dunno, haven't been keeping up with the statistics. It took more than two years to get to 250k though, and that was when we had a lot more posts/day.
Heh, was thinking the same thing earlier.
Evening All; EGE: great post, it could happen you know.
Corin; Good Lord, prayers for concerned.
How you can keep that many balls in the air at one time is beyond me.
Overtaxed; sniff, LSAggie felt the same way when she gave up her KS plate for MO. Well, congrats on becoming a 'legal'.
Hair; still qualifies as a 'good landing' in my book, all the occupants of the plane walked away from it.
It's so nice to have you Hobbit Hole guys working to keep us womenfolk happy with our body-images ;-)
Good evening! Popping in for a few minutes before bed...seems like my life has been awfully hectic lately.
Good evening! My life's been hectic too.
How's your reading material holding out? I wanted to suggest you give Discworld a try - start with, oh, "Guards Guards" is easy reading and starts off the most enjoyable suc-series... "Hogfather" is really good but you have to read "Soul Music" first and it's more Christmas. Terry Pratchett. You like English humor, don't you?
How about:
"Laurelindorenan lindelorendor malinornelion ornemalin...Taurelilomea-tumbalemorna Tumbaletaurea Lomeanor, which is what they used to say."
As a teaser...my home, when it was new, was "the cupboard under the stairs" of that big old house...actually a sizable closet, much larger than Master Potter's.
I finished Passage and I'm looking for something new. But...there's only one Discworld book in the Vermont Colleges library system, and it's a non-request...as in I think they don't allow you to get it via intralibrary loan. Probably paperback.
Any other suggestions? I'm still kinda in the mood for time travel, but it would have to be something quality. Wish I hadn't just finished re-reading Time and Again.
Hmmm... Ann is single. Has good career in order... Dang! And... I can make cheeseburgers!!! It's a match!
[whew] Just in time... those yacht club fees are pretty steep...
You'll have to hire a hefty bodyguard, though.
Lotta male FReepers'll be after your hide.
Dumplings. Big steaming dumplings with gravy.
What did you think of Passage? It makes me cry every time.
There's a sequel to Time and Again, you know. Can't recall the title. Michael Crichton's "Timeline" was like the poor man's version of Doomsday Book. "Lest Darkness Fall" by L. Sprague de Camp is a classic - not precisely time travel; it's a "Conneticut Yankee" genre. If you're willing to give Heinlein another try, "The Door into Summer" involves time travel (though not into history) and is a really good book, if dated.
Too bad about Discworld. "Night Watch" is a truly brilliant book, but you have to read "Guards, Guards", "Men at Arms", and "Feet of Clay" at the very least... there are a couple others that help with the understanding...
Oh, willing to try some space opera? Lois McMaster Bujold's "Miles Vorkosigan" series is brilliant. If you can find it, try "Cordelia's Honor" or "The Warrior's Apprentice" (you're more likely to find this in the "Young Miles" omnibus than as a stand-alone). This series is worth the time for two of its member books, "Memory", which is run of the mill until it takes you for a rather emotional loop, and "A Civil Affair" which is... Jane Austen. As science fiction.
