The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Sounds like it. I very much hope so. Are they (I hope against hope) widescreen?

Nope. Regular screen.

They came as a boxed set. I still have the box with the shrink wrap on it. Got 'em off ebay a few years ago.

They say 1995 on the actual tape.

Didn't they have a big push right before the new version came out? They started selling them saying "Last time available in orginal format?" or something like that? I seem to remember that.

I think that's what this is.

Well, all right. The good news is you have them as originally released. Which is mostly better than the "improvements", which upon reflection were released in 1997 and '98 in advance of the Big Deal Episode I.

I don't specifically remember that. You are more than likely right.

We'll have worked our way through all the poems of Tom Bombadil and be halfway through the Ent-wife song by then.

Evenin' evellybody. [sip]

I'm tired of having a job. I think I will retire. I've got it all figgered out... I could retire today and have about five dollars a week for the rest of my life, provided that I catch something pretty serious in about ten or fifteen years. :-) Maybe I can learn to live on that. I mean... with enough Top Ramen, anything is possible.

I think you need to marry a rich woman.

Hey, it worked for Kerry, right?

First one of us to get a million bucks better buy that commune. I wouldn't mind getting away from the rat race either.

I think you need to marry a rich woman.

I think that's a workable plan. [looks around] Drat.

Right. So this plan takes some work.

First, find a rich woman...

Maybe you'd better start hanging around different bars.

So it would seem. :-)

Maybe the bar at the yacht club would be more suitable. [note to self: get a boat]

The rich woman will probably already have a boat if she belongs to a yacht club.

You could have Hair crash a plane for you... just walk into the yacht club and ask for a drink and the loan of a fancy boat to get home.
