Man this ticked me off so bad last night. I've avoided news of the evening's events by limited Drudge viewing and avoiding TV News and news websites so that I can enjoy the TAPE DELAYED Olympics.
I was really looking forward to last night's women's team final.
I stopped by NBCOlympics.com late yesterday afternoon to check on archery events for my son and dang if they don't SPOIL THEIR OWN BROADCASTS!!!
On the right side was a list of what was coming up on TV and on the left was a slide show of pictures and headlines REVEALING THE RESULTS for swimming and gymnastics.
I watched "Ivanhoe" on Turner Classic Movies instead. Hope they ticked off some Nielsen Families too and lost points.
Come on guys -- msnbc.com, nbc.com spoiling is one thing. But the site that is supposed to supplement the broadcast spoiling stuff???
Get real!
No offense, but their own commercials state that the web site has up to the minute results.
Last night, I was watching my local newscast and the sports reporter came on and said that if we didn't want to know the results of the Olympics that day, we should put our TV on mute. I put my TV on mute, thinking I had a great night of gymnastics and swimming ahead of me. The sportscaster then put up graphics of who had one that day and who had lost. So much for the mute button! Really annoying...
Which again would be fine if they limited it to that. Below the TV listings is a list of links to get the results for the different sports that day. Don't put it RIGHT ON THE FRONT PAGE where you cannot avoid it.
Somebody watches the Olympics.
And I mean put the results themselves, not the links. Make me CHOOSE to be spoiled, not spoiled trying to find TV listings.
I was wondering who the olympic viewer was.
I'm keeping NBC turned off since they saw fit to propagandize the opening ceremonies with leftist crap.
I'm not watching.
What bugs me is when they're in the middle of an event, they cut away for commercials (yawn) then come back to Bob Coustas who goes into a 20 minute discourse on the history of mud. Then they go to something else.
I had seen that result, but since those are so fast, I'd probably have watched the night still knowing that one. But with gymnastics, like a football or baseball game, there is (usually) a building up of drama and suspense over the course of the event, that knowing the end result killed it completely.
Ivanhoe was pretty good though :)
I wonder if they are getting 'feedback' beyond their 'Neilsens' that is.
Yeah, Costas is an arse.
When they did the featurette on that geriatric (25 year old) gymnast for the U.S., they made a point of saying that "Here she is delivering pizzas to make money to stay in gymnastics." Wow, I thought, she's a hardworker...
But then they talk with her boss who talks about how sad it is that she's doing it.
And then they cut to her and she says "I'm not doing the stuff that an Olympic athlete should be doing -- I'm having to work too"
And finally she says how she would have to live off Power Bars because she couldn't afford to eat -- HAVE YOU PRICED A POWER BAR??? Come on, a loaf of bread and a jar a peanut butter goes a long way!!!
Man, it was dripping with "economy is so bad under Bush that even our gymnasts have to work to eat -- not like in RUSSIA where they are kidnapped at four and molded into gymnasts."
BLECH!
Yahoo!'s home page has a little checkbox where you can choose to hide the Olympic results. It's a good thing...
You're right, Costas always seems to have that pained look on his face. He and Couric really annoyed the heck out of me opening night, they really should learn when to shut up and so the audience can enjoy the sights and sounds. NOtice how Couric kept talking and talking while that singer sang?
AS for spoling the suspense, I've had to avoid going to Drudge or the net for that matter. Being in the West Coast, I've had the suspense spoiled for me too many times.
Gymnastics last night was very good, it helped that I didn't know the results before watching.
NBC should provide a link that takes you to results if you want to, rather than having it right there on the front page.
Nice of yahoo, and smart, to give their customers the option of blocking the results.
This has to be the lousiest Olypics I've every seen. The womens gymnastics tonight is a joke, they are falling down all over the place.
