There are enough packs of cigarettes in the freezer to get AshfieldK and I through Friday, then we are quitting cold turkey. Since I do most of my smoking while sitting in front of the computer, FReeping or playing solitaire, the computer is going to be off from this Friday night until the morning of September 3, 2004. This means that I'll need a volunteer to post the Family Table thread on 8-27, moms--I'll let you work that out, just let me know who gets the ping list. After this coming Friday's back-to-school thread, Grellis will be silent for two weeks.
Now, that's not going to affect most of you--I'm just another screenname, after all. Its a lot to me, though. Since I'm at home with the kids all day, you FReepers are my adult companionship. Its going to be as difficult staying off of this forum as kicking the habit will be.
As for quitting smoking, well, I have a certain FReeper to thank for that. The other day I realized that I have tried every method of quitting except one--cold turkey. I've never really given it the old college try. If any of you have quit cold turkey, let me know how you did it. Let me know what I can expect. If you know of any ex-smoking FReepers who have quit cold turkey, please ping them for me. I need all the help I can get. I hate smoking. I have to stop. Please help me stop. Consider it your mitzvah for August.
I will be checking my regular email once a day, so if there are any mom-emergencies (we have two births coming up!) please drop me a line. FReepmail me if you would like my regular email.
For the record: Cheese. Moose. Hugh sale.
All my smokes are belong to...someone else!
LOL!!
I was summarily banned from making the coffee while out in the field.
(FDC had a power inverter and used a 'Mr. Coffee' in the FDC vehicle. Our Cap liked his coffee to be scared water. He took a good healthy slug of my stuff, and I was banned from making the coffee.)
*sigh*
It was great stuff.
(Just don't use creamora or you'll pay for it.. Ask SAMWolf and snippy_about_it about my coffee with creamora in it..)
You like the tagline?
Thanks!

I love my fat cat, her name is Sydney, but now she is just fat cat. I wouldnt trade her for the world either, just sometimes when I wake in the middle of the night, not able to breath, and she is asleep on me :)
I love the way fat cat waddles, she too fat to walk
Kearen is a beautiful kitty
I have you both beat!
Although I don't have a picture...my Peaches cat weighs in at 27 pounds. All my others are as thin as rails but she is huge. Should you be able to hear a cat walk? Lol!

Thanks.
Kearen 'thumps' when she walks.
Didn't know a cat could stomp it's feet, but she does.
(If you've seen the movie "American Psycho" and seen the part where he's running down the hallway in boxer shorts, you've seen how my cat runs. 'thump-thump-thump-thump!')
She somewhat bobs and trots..
Kearen is good about not sleeping on my chest, she merely immobilises my legs.
LOL!
Cats shouldn't be able to stomp whne they're angry, but Kearen does.
(I'm assuming Peaches has alot of attitude as well?)
But she's a luv, Kearen trills insted of meowing.
Go for it! You have nothing to lose but that awful smell! (Nothing personal, but I can smell a smoker when he walks past on the sidewalk outside my windows ... even if he's not smoking!)
I'll fast from something for you every day ... maybe even Freeping, once or twice :-).
Yes, she really does have attitude.
She is a blue cream that I adopted at the shelter and she can be suffocating with her affection. I wish she could lose weight but I don't know what to do. Maybe she should take up smoking for Grellis!
Been trying to get Kearen's weight down as well, but she seems to gain density rather than gain or lose mass.
Not sure of Kearen's lineage, she was put in a burlap bag and tossed over the 8 foot tall fence behind the Goshen NY humane society when she was a kitten.
(She doesn't like being picked up, probably due to her flight over the fence.)
Good luck. I am sure it will be very difficult.
I think you are very brave for going cold turkey.
I tried the rubber band trick, with no luck at all. Ditto the patch, the gum, and acupuncture. Zyban worked. I quit smoking when I took Zyban. I also quit eating and sleeping. Psychotropic drugs as a means of smoking cessation is not something I recommend.
I have been scaling back on smoking the past few days in preparation for Friday. I find that if I play solitaire in the dining room (we only smoke in the one room of the house in which the kids are not allowed) I don't smoke. I don't even think about smoking. Fortunately, I am a solitaire fiend and know a dozen variations of the game, so I won't be easily bored. I also have the feeling that I am going to be cleaning--a lot.
That's what drives me crazy--I hate everything about smoking. I hate the smell. I hate the taste. I really hate that the kids see me smoke (not much, just when we're outside). I hate the shortness of breath and the coughing. I hate the expense. I hate the inconvenience. I am down to pure addiction. Its not going to be easy. I've been smoking since I was fifteen, a pack a day since I was sixteen (although I have been smoking less than that the past few years). When I add up how much money I have spent on smoking over the years, and realize that what I've sp0ent on tobacco I could have spent on real estate, I want to vomit.
I understand how you feel about the money ... we spend too much on wine!
My mom quit when she turned 40, after smoking more than 25 years. It was hard; probably would have been easier before *I* was a teenager! I'm impressed with you for continuing to try.
Watch that old movie "Cold Turkey" starring Dick Van Dyke. It is hilarious!
You CAN do this!!!!
My father did after smoking 50 years.
It took a heart attack acaring him into making the decision to quit. I'm glad you are not waiting for that. You don't always get the chance to quit after a heart attack. Many times you just die.
How did he do it? He was in ICU 10 days. No cigarettes there! Then hospitalized another week. By then the worst of the physical withdrawl was over.
He still fights the cravings 13 years later. It's always worse after a meal. He channels the energy by getting up from the table quickly after eating and washing the dishes. By the time he is done the craving is gone.
We'll 'see' you when your self-imposed exile is over. Best wishes!
