I am currently in a debate about the ACLU. This is the last thing I've recv'd. Ideas for a response?
"Gee, I always thought that the ACLU was about as conservative as you could get. The Michigan Branch recently filed a suit on behalf of a HS Senior who was not allowed to put in a bible verse under her picture in the yearbook. They have been know to file suit for the KKK, Libertarians, religious groups, everybody. They only thing they are interested in is the constitution and civil liberties. This seems like a conservative view to me. I admit that I have to bite my lip sometimes when I see the groups that are being defended. Some of them stink to high heaven, but I do believe in civil liberties.
Most people look at the person and decide whether or not they deserve legal protection and if they look like a criminal or some other disreputable character, they appear less deserving of rights. But remember, you are a law abiding citizenat least until the police pick you up for something. At that point, you will be glad that the ACLU is there to stand up for your rights. As a law abiding citizen you deserve the legal protections afforded by our system and you are a law abiding citizen until the jury says guilty. I cant think of anything more conservative than this view."
Are you familiar with NAMBLA? They defended them - if what they advocate isn't only criminal but dispiccable s well, I don't know what is - yet they chose to defend them.
My opinion is that they want to rid America of Christianity.
For every "suit on behalf of a HS Senior who was not allowed to put in a bible verse under her picture in the yearbook" the ACLU files 50 suits attacking references to Christianity in public life.
