Is it legal to be naked in your own home?
July 13, 2004 | self / vanity

What with the weather being what is has been lately, I spend a lot of time naked.

I don't do this to offend anyone else, but I am somewhat concerned that someone might come to my door and observe me before I can put some pants on.

My question is, am I breaking any kind of law?

Ask Jon Matthews.

People who live in glass houses should wear pants.

Harry! Just be sure to get dressed before you go down to the Kroger to get your Fried Chicken for the evening!! I know that hunger can come upon you suddenly and you might forget you are not dressed!!

You have a good memory.

One thing that there is no risk of me ever doing again is going down to Krogers and buying another one of those chickens.

I also won't be going to the Chinese place that is next door. In the realm of disgusting places to eat, that one one wins a prize.

The risk is that I could take the dog for walk at 3:00 in the morning without getting dressed first. He doesn't care, but someone else might.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwww!

In extreme cases, manscaping is warranted.

You would be breaking the law in places I’ve lived if you answered the door nude, or were visible from the public access outside.

I know. Please, I beg of you, put up some curtains! :)

There is no law, AFAIK about being naked in your own home or even your own back yard as long as you are not visible from public access areas.

You should put on pants before answering the door but I am not sure if that is law. If, on the other hand, people are just barging in then they deserve what they get.

I find that it tends to keep the Jehovah Witnesses away. (...and it gives me a place to hang the dish towel.)

Yes, it is illegal is most states. However, it is normally a a low class crime like a city ordance or such. I am well aware of most laws as that is my job. I have been charged myself recently with this crime. Not going to the door, but a female was intentionally looking into my apartment with my blind closed and then swore out a warrent for my arrest. How she got the warrent I'll never know. My question is where does privacy began. Certainly not in you own home, because we live in the "United States" and that would be the right thing to do.

You got nailed for being naked in your home?

I guess if your blinds are open and you are making a spectacle of yourself I can see the problem but if you are chilling on the couch in the buff and some lady peaks through blinds, privacy was invaded on you, not her...

Oh well...I have a tendency to feel rather, well, naked without anything on. Much like leaving the house without my cell phone only naked..lol
