The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

...but you can't buy it in the US.

Can you get Liquid Splenda online anywhere?

Dunno where that "perfect place" could be, though. I'd like a bit more of a winter than we had in Oregon, otherwise that might be close. But the top town I got was a PA town, actually. Johnstown. I think it's in the more mountainous part of the state? Doesn't sound like a great area for jobs, though, I wouldn't think. Kinda like here...nice place to live, but hard to move to if you don't have connections, since the job market is always tight.

Bilbo got Ft. Collins on that test, BTW. ;-) Couple of us took it just for the heck of it.

I think there are some good forums out there as well as the official site. I do some searching on 'em for recipes. Of course, once you get to the second phase, most "normal" recipes can be made South Beach friendly, since really there aren't many restrictions - just have to exchange the whole ingredients for things like white rice and adjust cooking times accordingly.

Good morning Hobbit Hole!

Just got to work about a half hour ago. My mom had to run to the bank to get the money for the oven that is being delivered today. The double oven we ~ad~ ordered was recalled, so the single oven was delivered this morning.

Today is the day (supposedly) that the whole kitchen gets put back together! Yippee skippy!! *fingers crossed, prayers up*

Here's some breakfast...

Yeah, Johnstown's not the most prosperous area. It's actually not that far away from where I am now. Nice place. That's where the famous Johnstown Flood happened. We went there once as a field trip.

Ft. Collins would be a good place for Bilbo. For one thing, they've got a great bus system! It's not a small town, but it's got a lot of that feel. Wait til you come visit me, you'll see.

Nice breakfast...I could use that, been in work meetings without a break until 9 p.m. each of the last two nights and have another late night (but not that late) at work tonight. Good thing I'm going on vacation starting tomorrow evening. I'm beat. Gotta run back to work now, I'm late.

On the upside, looks like the cost of living there is very low. Average home costs 60k or so.

Yeah, Bilbo really needs to go somewhere with better transportation. But at this point he's committed to staying here for awhile. I kinda wish he'd go for it, but I'm not exactly the best example in that area...

But I DID leave for four and a half years before I settled!

Sigh.... cheap to own, maybe, but renting's another matter. It's quite a bit. Of course at this point, owning a home is out of the question for me.

Probably if someone else could go with him, he'd go, but that's a big change for someone like us, isn't it? Being used to a whole family around, moving so far away is daunting.

Oh, I was referring to average cost in Johnstown...I imagine Ft. Collins is much, much higher. Probably higher than here, I would think.

Yeah, moving far away is a big deal if you have a lot of ties. Of course, in my case a big part of it is my pets. If I were to move, I could maybe take two, but no more, unless I left some of them temporarily while I bought a house. And buying a house is not necessarily something I'd want to plan on doing unless I was pretty confident I'd be staying put for awhile. So it's a major decision.

But being near family can be a downside, too. I have people to hang out with all the time, so I'm less likely to go outside of my comfort zone and meet new folks. And even when I DO go to events or new places, I usually take along a sibling or two, and though I do talk to other people, it's different than going to something alone. I'm sure you know what I mean.

Yep, it's very safe. And when they all get the jokes - when you can say two words to a sib in the middle of a conversation with other people, and the sib doubles over laughing while everyone else stares at you - it's really easy to just exclude outsiders. It's like FR. If you went somewhere else and used "series" or "vey", they'd think you were stupid, or a careless typer. I've got a whole vocabulary I use around my family that I don't use anywhere else.

I'd rather have cold weather than hot.

Oh me too!

Within limits of course... Give me mild... we Norwegians weren't built for extremes.
