The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Ruh-roh... HH the 13th. Is that a bad thing?

Well, I could start 14 right now if'n ya want.

"Just let any one say I chose the wrong man or the wrong house, and you can stop at thirteen and have all the bad luck you like, or go back to digging coal." ~Gandalf, The Hobbit, Chapter 1.

Hi ksen! Hmm, you smell of soot... been getting near the religion flame wars?

I think I may have poked a Roman hornet's nest, but it's still too early to know the consequences yet. ;^)

Chip the glasses and crack the plates!
Blunt the knives and bend the forks!
That's what Bilbo Baggins hates-
Smash the bottles and burn the corks!
Cut the cloth and tread on the fat!
Pour the milk on the pantry floor!
Leave the bones on the bedroom mat!
Splash the wine on every door!
Dump the crocks in a boiling bawl;
Pound them up with a thumping pole;
And when you've finished, if any are whole,
Send them down the hall to roll !
That's what Bilbo Baggins hates!
So, carefully! carefully with the plates!

The one I'm watching now (Fullmetal Alchemist) is great. But it's not available in the US, only through fansubs. I believe you have a cookie-ethics problem? If you don't, I'll bake you a set...

Ooh, try "Fruits Basket", though I think that was written for teenage girls who like angst. But I love it. The first two seasons of Rurouni Kenshin are incredible, possibly the best anime I've ever seen, but the third is lame.

Do you have anyone's email address, in case you get banned?

How're the kids? I bet your daughter would love Fruits Basket... on second thought there was a little, um, crossdressing... they were all weird. On the whole I think it's a safe anime, though.

Cool, new thread! :)

Anyway you were saying:

"No, they told me I'd have to go to the UPS or Post Office to get the packages."

Yeah, that's what I meant by the delivery guy leaving a stickie: he leaves a Post-It note notifying you that the package has arrived at the post office and you can come and pick it up.

Cutting back on Amazon purchases does sound like a good idea, though--in theory of course. "I agree with you--in theory. In theory, Communism works--*in theory*!" (Homer J. Simpson)

I have access to ecurbh's Hobbit Hole site and the Yahoo site if anything goes down, but I don't think it will.

The kids are doing great. My daughter and wife are at teen camp this week down in the Keys so the boys and I are bachelors this week. My oldest son starts football practice today, so I'm interested in seeing how he does. This is his first year playing and they are going to have to cut some kids after the first seven practices because way too many signed up.

Does your apartment complex have a place to receive packages? David found a place that does that. It will come in handy because we're gonna ship some stuff out there that should arrive within a day or two of his arrival!

Excellent! You gonna make it to g'nadmoot 05? I could bring my Rurouni Kenshin disks and we could have a real animefest...

Nope, they don't accept packages at all. The only downside to the place I've found so far.

Oh, tell Clare that "Fullmetal Alchemist" kept me up way too late last night. When is she going to be on-thread again, anyway, we need her to be our informer on things anime.

What is the name of this new curriculum?

We had looked into getting a dish network just to have access to some educational stuff, but we didn't see anything that we particularly liked better than what we put together ourselves.
