Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I think I was even on the original Stuned Beeber thread, and I never did figure out what that person was trying to say. But I like it.
Evenen' all. [sip] Another day slips the bonds of time and drifts aimlessly into the swirling eddies of time. [sip]

Purty good quote I just read...
"We are pretty stupid critters who are lucky to have gotten as far as we have, and most of that was by trial-and-error. The notion that we are so smart that we can engineer societies or tinker usefully with the climate system of a class-M planet is ludicrous."

My take on "global climate change" is pretty simple: What evidence is there that climate has ever remained static at *any* time in knowable history? Climate changes. Yes it does.
The operative question is: if we could affect it, which way would we prefer that it changes? The one thing it will not do is stay the same.

Out of curiosity, where did that come from? "Class-M Planet" is a very very Star Trek reference - has it become an actual scientific term?

Someone else just referenced it, and I queried thus:
"Please...I must know...
"What in the name of Don Knotts (PBUH) is a Stuned Beeber?
"Please tell me and save me from the dark well of madness that yawns at my feet..."
Now awaiting a response :)

Now THAT is a thunderstorm.
Reminds me of that last trip to Miami when I was up on da roof of the hotel in da hot tub watching the lightning smack all around the city. Pretty cool. :-)

How's it going, Master Sea-man?
I gotta question for you, as a watcher of and player in our industry (this "thing of ours" <grin>). Is your company heavily into certifications for IT folk? Are certs very important to your company, or just a nice thing to have?

OK, I watched the first two episodes. Still want to get in some reading time (and wanna make these last!), so that's it for tonight. But the deadly sin types have started showing up. Weird.

"What in the name of Don Knotts (PBUH) is a Stuned Beeber? Some doofus posted a thread a few weeks ago talking about someone's beeber (beeper) going off. Then he mentioned something happening and his being stuned (stunned) by it. As you can see, I can't even remember what the thread was about, but the 'beeber' and 'stuned' sure got my attention!
