NEW YORK If Debra Lafave is convicted of sexual misconduct and lewd exhibition, the middle school teacher will be part of a frightening trend: A report to Congress Wednesday found that one in every 10 school-age kids endures sexual misconduct by a teacher or other school employee.
Lafave is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old student at least five times at her home, at school and in the back of her SUV.
The student identified butterfly and Chinese letter tattoos on Lafave's body for investigators.
The 23-year-old reading specialist at Greco Middle School near Ocala, Fla., turned herself into authorities Monday, accompanied by her attorney.
Not really, I prefer to wait about a week.
You forgot about the pols and union reps....
I'm with you. This is an extraordinarily average looking woman. Maybe a little above-average, but mostly because of her present age. Give her about 10 years and it's not going to be pretty.
Of course there is a double standard, that's why I brought up the scenerio. While boys may mature physically earilier than girls, mentally it is probably the same. Agreed, everyone? What feels good to this kid now, may end up messing up his life in later years.
At any rate, this woman crossed the line. I can't understand why anyone would say otherwise.
So that's what happened to me.
A 23 year old female teacher raped me when I was 14.
Wait until I tell my therapist all about this!!!
I wish I were a motorcycle seat sometimes.
Sadly, yes. But worse, the cons are outnumbered by the number of incompetents running around this state - again, all types.
If some teacher that looked like this forced herself on me when I was 14, I would have squealed.
"Yes, and the truth is,.. it has a good chance of destroying his entire life with how he relates to women.. He may never look at his own mother or any other loving woman with the same trusting innocence again. Not what you would think of on first blush, it is a very, very sad situation.."
I know there's a joke in there somewhere Carlo, but it's too early in the morning for me to find it.
"A report to Congress Wednesday found that one in every 10 school-age kids endures sexual misconduct by a teacher or other school employee."
Well, that settles THAT. That is a FAR FAR FAR worse percentage than -anything- the Catholic Church is guilty of in their own misconduct cases. And who can believe that that level of misconduct could be going on without the NEA helping to cover it up?
So, can someone explain to me the massively different levels of media attention and public outrage given to, say, the sexual abuse conducted by the NEA versus the RCC?
(Full Disclosure: I'm -not- a practicing Catholic. But I've been saying all along for years that without being presented with numbers comparative to -all- professions that work directly with kids, we have no idea if the RCC is more or less likely to do this sort of thing than any other organization. I love the smell of vindication in the morning.)
Qwinn
Yeah, but were there any pics of Starr on a cycle? I thought not..
I disagree that it will mess up this kid. At 14 many of us saw porn and all sorts of crap. Its not like at 14 a boy is a little flower or anything. The plumbing works on a 14 year old if you know what I mean
hehehe!
Actually - I was still a virgin at 14 and a junior in HS
Dang! I never had any teachers that looked like that!
Because of societal norms. In other societies, things we find repellant are accepted.
In early America, marriages among 13 and 14 year olds were not uncommon. In Arab lands, it is perfectly normal for a married man to have a young male 'friend' for additional sex.
In 2004 and in America, the legality is that young males (<17 in GA) are off limits to women. But the societal norm is that they are expected to have sex by around 15-16.
What's with using the code phrase 'sleeping with' when referring to 'having sex' with? When people are having sex, they aren't sleeping or haven't you noticed? Besides which, sleeping with someone is never illegal.
Me too! I never had teachers like this. I guess this is the "finished product" and we were stuck with the prototypes.
Incorrect. Consider the case of a pilot and his co-pilot in a plane that is approaching a runway for touchdown.
If they were sleeping, together, it would be an illegal act of dereliction of duty.
