NYT RUSHES OUT REVIEW REDO (Kinder Review Of clinton Book)
June 25, 2004 -- The New York Times, which last Sunday published a scathing front-page review of Bill Clinton's "My Life," has alerted subscribers that another, much kinder and gentler review is coming July 4 in The New York Times Book Review. Entitled "Confessions of a Policy Wonk" and written by the novelist Larry McMurtry, the prominently placed review calls the book "the richest American presidential autobiography," and says that the former president is a better writer than Reagan, Ford, Nixon or Lyndon Johnson.
Unlike Michiko Kakutani, the author of the June 20 review, who called Clinton's book "eye-crossingly dull," McMurtry evokes authors from Dreiser to Fitzgerald to Balzac if not in comparison to Clinton, at least in reference to him.
Bush Camp Hits Democrats' 'Coalition of Wild-Eyed' Reuters ^ | 06/24/04
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush's re-election campaign lumped together vocal outbursts by Democrats Al Gore, Howard Dean and others on Thursday and called them part of John Kerry's "Coalition of the Wild-Eyed."
The Bush-Cheney campaign released a video on its Web Site that played up some of the more strident statements Democrats have made on the campaign trail and declared: "This is not a time for pessimism and rage."
The implication the Bush campaign appeared to be trying to leave was that some of the main boosters of Kerry's presidential campaign are filled with rage and perhaps a bit kooky.
"Today, our campaign is releasing a web video to 6 million of our supporters to show them what we're up against and what we're up against is John Kerry's 'coalition of the wild-eyed,"' said Bush campaign manager Ken Melhman.
Cheney Tells Sen. Leahy F*** Off NewsMax.com ^ | 6/24/04 | AP
Vice President Cheney cursed at Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy during a confrontation on the Senate floor while members were having their annual group picture taken earlier this week, Leahy and Senate sources said Thursday.
Senate aides with knowledge of the encounter Tuesday said the vice president confronted Leahy about some of the Democrat's criticism about alleged improprieties in Iraq military contracts awarded to Halliburton Co. Cheney, who as vice president is president of the Senate, is a former CEO of Halliburton.
Leahy responded by criticizing the White House for standing by allies who had accused Democrats of being anti-Catholic last year in opposing one of President Bush's judicial nominees, said one Senate aide, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Cheney then responded, "F-- off" or "F-- you," the aide said.
That account was backed by another aide, also speaking on condition of anonymity.
Leahy, D-Vt., confirmed that the confrontation took place but would not provide details.
"I think he was just having a bad day," Leahy said. "I was kind of shocked to hear that kind of language on the floor."
Cheney's office also wouldn't go into detail, but confirmed the two men traded remarks.
"That doesn't sound like language that the vice president would use, but there was a frank exchange of views," said Kevin Kellems, a spokesman for Cheney.
Everyone is where they are supossed to be.
Renata called yesterday when they arrived in York, PA.
Little Pixie boy was very bad on the ride down. Renata says when he finally fell asleep they all broke out in applause, which then woke him up. He is a bad 4 y/o. LOL.
Boychild works at the catering business today. (Last week this lady gave him a $60 tip and he was quite pleased with himself!!)
Mom has a 10 am appt for a hair cut and perm.
Hi Molly! You must have missed my post from yesterday about my enjoyment of my vacation from Blabbity. I was so glad to hear the Great One! Unfortunately, the Great One only did the show yesterday. Others will do it next week, but they will all be better than Blabbity, who returns on next Friday with a show from Salt Lake City. I must say, though, that I really like the live shows Blabbity does from bookstores, etc., because I enjoy hearing the crowd!
I hear that, Neetsie!
Yes busy yesterday afternoon. Husband a little under the weather....car problems.....other disarrangements! How's that for a word??????
One of our nieces does catering work in the summer....Denver. The tips they get! WOW!
That word works!
His ego clearly dominates the majority of his program. I get so frustrated when he interviews people in general. I am having trouble explaining it, but, for instance, when he does "Man on the street", he does a deplorable job of interacting with these liberals. On the other hand, when he has a liberal caller he does quite well in his debate with them.
I find myself switching to another station frequently. It's ususally the 2-hour delay of Rush.....I hate listening to delayed broadcasts, but it still beats Blabbity.
Whenever Roger Hedgecock fills in for Rush, I listen to him excluselively and forget about Blabbity.
In our neck of the woods, we get Rush from 12-3 and Blabbity from 3-6, then of course the Great One after that. My only alternative is that NPR and I REFUSE to listen to that, so I rock on, on my way home from work!
Seriously, if you can stomach it for a few mins, listen to him again, and you can clearly hear when he is reading off copy and when he is discussing/engaging off-the-cuff.
Also, his TV show is a 1/2 hr synopsis of whatever it was he talked about on the radio that day.
Bores me to tears.
>>Did ya see Monica's response to Bill Clinton
No- missed it
and cheese....
Cheese on the pasta darling....not in the sauce.
Cough up this recipe.
>>Raven, did your wife find this amazing recipe or develop it herself???
It was in an Italian cooking magazine, I think...takes a while, however...she started around 2 in the afternoon
>>My only alternative is that NPR
I've benn considering getting satellite radio...
maybe I can scani it in
An Italian scanner?
My listening every weekday is as follows on my local radio stations:
1) Bill Bennet's "Morning In America" SUPERB!!! FIVE STARS!!!!! MY FAVORITE!!! 4am -7am Mountain
2) Laura Ingraham......7 am-10 am Mountain 2 stars
3) A mix between Dennis Prager and Dr. Laura....10am-12pm Mountain
4) Rush noon Mountain - 1 pm
5) Blabbity (and delayed Rush) 1pm--3pm Mountain
6) Blabbity and a local talk sjow 3pm-4pm Mountain
7) Hugh Hewitt 4pm-7pm Mountain
Although I think it's sad that it has come down to this level in American politics, I cannot blame Cheney for saying what he did. Leahy is a bastard.
Good morning,
7th day of rain. We have terrible flooding in surrounding areas. Thankfully our routes are not under water.
Hope ya'll enjoy your Saturday.
