The Guild--6/16/04--Thunder & Lightning

Posted on 06/16/2004 7:20:18 AM PDT by Timeout

It's been raining for 5 days straight here on the Gulf Coast. 6 inches Monday and another 6 on Tuesday. Computer blipping off and on. Lighting r-r-r-r-r-rips the sky. Constant thunder renders kitty to a helpless blob, head "hiding" in her armpit for hours at a time.

Nothing discourages the young cardinal couple with their nest in the azalea at the end of the drive. Heedless of the downpour, they show up on schedule for their morning ration of bread crumbs. The bread turns to instant mush, but somehow they fill their beaks and return to the nest.

I've loved thunderstorms all my life. As children, we spent those rainy days with toys never touched when the sun was shining...Sugarland, Scrabble, paper dolls, usually played in a "fort" made with blankets thrown over the dining room table. And cooking. When rain kept us indoors for days on end, my mother started cooking...and cooking...and cooking. Casseroles, cookies, pies, shelling peas, soups...you name it, we cooked it. To this day, when it pours, I cook. Soggy therapy, I guess.

In California, a thunderstorm was a rare event. We rarely saw lightning or woke to the rumble of thunder. For me it was like an amputation, going through summer with no flashbang. In later years, my job required me to drive across the Mojave Desert frequently. There was always a thunderstorm in the late afternoon. Now THAT was a lightning show!

This is a great line from Jonah Goldberg:
It was a symptom of Bill Clinton's tackiness that he inverted the old axiom that "everyone lies about sex." It's true, gentlemen did lie about sex to protect the honor of women. Bill Clinton lied about the honor of women he had sex with to protect himself

What could demonstrate the pettiness of MediaCrats more than their overboard reporting that a dismissed juror says he would have acquitted Scott Peterson based on the testimony he's heard so far? What could be more meaningless?

Consider that "the testimony he's heard so far" hasn't even reached the point where the bodies were found. So---based on the testimony so far---this juror could say maybe she's just run away with the milkman!

Toon made his fortune BY being president.

He made money both before and during his presidency, and reportedly stashed it away in off-shore and Swiss banks. There's evidence Vince Foster made several over-and-back one-day trips to Switzerland to tend to the Clintons' banking business. Heaven knows he likely was getting payoffs from the Chinese, the Stephens bunch in Arkansas, the Mena cocaine dealers, etc. through the 80s and 90s, in addition to whatever the MacDougals were funneling to him.

This week can safely be dubbed "when narcissistic worlds collide", what with clinton and that blob Mikey Moore out with their sacks of bs.

Clinton is so pathetic, blaming Starr, blaming the media, blaming his childhood with the drunken step-daddy for his inability to keep his zipper up. When clinton said since the Cold War was over, they (conservatives) had to find another enemy and then how Starr had to "drive the infidel from the temple", I thought clinton can forgive his step-daddy who fired a gun at he and his mom and regularly beat on Virginia, but there's no forgiveness for a man who was just doing his job. One who by the way was appointed by his administration.

Bill is so full of ****, he thinks we don't know that Reno approved the Monica investigation to distract the country (the media) from illegal Chinese campaign donations.

Do any of you have a good recipe for squash handy that you can pass along? I hate squash so I never cook it but now FIL has requested it, so I'm stuck.

Any help or direction will be greatly appreciated!

she's a dead ringer for the young Kay Corleone!

I'm one of those freaks who've never seen a Godfather movie.

So sorry the lighting zapped your stuff! We've been hit twice, which explains why I run around the house like a madwomen unplugging everything at the first boom.

I saw an old show of Dennis miller's on HBO and his guest was Pat Ireland. The reason she and her NOW gals kept mum on bill's exploits? The more Paula Jones told her story the less believable the story became.

Anita Hill's story was unbelievable too, that didn't seem to slow them down at all. hmmmm!

Crooks for Kerry

A left-wing group with ties to Sen. John F. Kerry's presidential campaign is hiring convicted sex offenders and batterers to go door-to-door to register voters in several battleground states.

HLL, you might want to check on Cheeks, she's probably got her son's hookers going door-to-door.

Reliable Sources

I think we're gonna need a lie tote board.

Clinton tells the story in his new book of Roger Porter, former policy aide to GHWB, who clinton says warned him that they would do whatever they had to do to take him out if he were unwise enough to seek the presidency in 1992.

Porter says the conversation never took place.

Also at the above link, Biden tells Rumsfled and Cheney that they have been dead wrong on every piece of advise they've given the president and therefore he should "get rid of them."

"They said nothing. Just sat like big old bullfrogs on a log and looked at me."

What, Biden expects a dialog with two men he just called incompetent? Those hair plugs have taken root in his brain.

Nancy Lloyd managing editor at Family Circle says Laura Bush has the lock on the Cookie Cook-off because her recipe includes chocolate, "This thing comes down to chocolate. So far this thing's been 100 percent."

Of Teresa's pumpkin spice cookies Lloyd says, "put a spatula in it, it's done."

I love the rest of her commentary:

I don't know what she was thinking. You've got to go with something popular. I mean, why didn't she make a ketchup cake? So then if John Kerry doesn't end up with the job, at least it helps her bottom line."

Poor Miss Lloyd, she's under the impression Teresa can think beyond her own self absorbed elitist theories!

Is this a preview of what will happen if blubba ever gets appointed to the USSC?

SQUASH CASSEROLE

(I don't have a recipe so I'll estimate measurements. Before cooking you want it to be firm, but wet enough...kind of like dressing.)

8 summer squash cut in rings
1 large onion, chopped
1 or 2 zucchini cut in rings
SAUTE ABOVE IN BUTTER IN LARGE SKILLET (Should be well wilted)
Let cool. Salt and pepper.

Add 1/2 cup grated cheddar (maybe more)
1/2 cup grated parmesan (maybe more)
and 1 or 2 beaten eggs to get right consistency.
MIX WELL. SPRAY CASSEROLE DISH WITH PAM, POUR IN SQUASH.

TOP WITH BUTTERED RITZ CRACKER CRUMBS.

350 oven for about 30 min.

PS: After squash mix has sauteed for about 10 min., cover the pan to speed cooking.

Thank you!! It's so hard to know if a recipe is good if I don't like the main ingredient.

BWB's cooking for her FIL. I think she should have invited us, don't you?!

I cooked brocolli/chicken/almond casserole tonight. Feeling generous, I made an extra one for the mommy with two little children. She was thrilled...on her way over now to pick it up. (I love surprising people like that!)

Dang J -

I sure wish I lived closer to Alabama! As you know, I am cooking challenged and every time I read one of your recipes my mouth waters. Now I'm hungry for broccoli along with squash.

BWB - your fil is in for a treat with that squash recipe.

Is it zucchini, yellow, butternut or acorn squash? I've been out all day and am just now getting up to speed on today's posts.

Denise Rich looks like a few miles of bad road, doesn't she? And Blubba keeps getting caught on the lies in his book. That's a shame.
