I didn't see "Strange Brew" (which is a retelling of Hamlet with lots of slapstick, bathroom humor, and beer).
A couple that I haven't seen but I've heard are patterned after Shakespeare are "Men Of Respect" (mob movie patterened based on Macbeth) and "My Own Private Idaho" (based on Henry IV)

Goodbye Girl had the couple (Richard Dreyfus and Marsha Mason, I think) attending a laughable Richard III.

There's a wild and wacky version of the Tempest, by/with (?) JOhn Casavetes. And there may be another wild and wacky version. It's been 25 years since everything, and I can't remember if it's one movie or two.

The kings brother secretly kills the king then takes the kings place, ruling the kingdom and marrying the kings wife. The kings son gets disturbed about the whole thing, even before he suspects his uncles guilt, and after a period of exile returns to successfully avenge his fathers death.
Has anyone mentioned Richard Burton as Edwin Booth in "The Prince of Player's"? It was the sory of John Wilkes Booth's brother.
