My Dragon Fly and Me
If I could be a Dragon Fly and wing my way through the sky I would never be shy just me and my Dragon Fly!
By moonlight we ride the wind chase the comets tail for fun by day we would hide from the sun our fragile wings would come undone
On darkest nights we would use fireflies as our guide we would dip and we would glide through the heavens open wide and scatter diamonds in the night sky my Dragon Fly and I...
And we would wing past our lovers silent in the night... to kiss their face in our flight much to their surprise and delight my Dragon Fly and me in sight...
Such a view do we share away up here in the air of breezes soft through our hair my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

In An Old Temple Into that stillness I could never thrust
A lance of sound so harsh as human word,
To stir the sleeping echoes from the dust
That now are lying empty and unheard.
I could but whisper softly to the ghosts
And linger there a moment as in prayer
Adding another to the voiceless hosts
Unnumbered ages have abandoned there.

I didn't realize that L'Amour wrote poetry. I have his affliction. I can't write about something unless it means something to me -- I tease Sarge because he can write about nothing and it sounds fabulous. I just can't do that! Wish I could, but it's not me. I can only write about things that I have a deep emotional connection with -- at least so far. I'm hoping that hanging out here in the Lair will teach me more! :o)

Well, if nothing else, it will teach you to appreciate poetry.
I'm a writer, although my venue is tech manuals. I can't write verse to save my soul...just ask Ms. Feather!
But I do like to read it, and am so glad that the Lair is here for us.
Now, though, I need to turn in. See you tomorrow!!

Morning Star,
Thank you for Song to the Evening Star by Thomas Campbell. I absolutely love the old English and wish it were still in practice.
I had the wonderful opportunity to have a neighbor read Chaucer to me. I was recovering from surgery and she offered to give me a reading as a comfort to me.
I honored her with an Anthology in which my work had been published.

Good morning Ms. Feather!
When I was a senior in high school I took an English Lit class. My teacher was, um, shall we say playing for the wrong team...but he had this big booming voice and listening to him read was cool. He liked Chaucer, and read it often. In that class we also read Dante's "The Inferno." 1st hour -- he would make us read aloud and then would correct our emphasis and diction. He was a good teacher in that regard.

Good morning, all! Had out of town visitors last weekend so was AFK for the Fourth festivities. I hope you all had a great weekend!
An Invocation
Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin
O if it's true that in the night,
When rest the living in their havens
And liquid rays of lunar light
Glide down on tombstones from the heavens,
O if it's true that still and bare
Are then the graves until aurora --
I call the shade, I wait for Laura:
To me, my friend, appear, appear!
Beloved shadow, come to me
As at our parting -- wintry, ashen
In your last minutes' agony;
Emerge in any form or fashion:
A distant star across the sphere,
A gentle sound, a puff of air or
The most appalling wraith of terror,
I care not how: appear, appear!..
I call you -- not to speak my scorn
Of people whose ill-fated malice
Has killed my friend, and not to learn
The secrets of the nether-palace,
And not because a doubt may tear
My heart at times... but as I suffer,
I want to say that still I love her,
That still I'm yours: appear, appear!

Good morning, my dear Colonel. Nice to have friends and company over the holidays.
What an interesting poem this morning. I know you have a job to do and probably a thousand pings to look over. :-) Some of those pings are from me. LOL

Oysters

Charming oysters I cry:
My masters, come buy,
So plump and so fresh,
So sweet is their flesh,
No Colchester oyster
Is sweeter and moister:
Your stomach they settle,
And rouse up your mettle:
They'll make you a dad
Of a lass or a lad;
And madam your wife
They'll please to the life;
Be she barren, be she old,
Be she slut, or be she scold,
Eat my oysters, and lie near her,
She'll be fruitful, never fear her.
