"Bush Should Have Died, Not Reagan": Morrissey (Washed-Up Pop Has-Been Opens Pie Hole)
Manchester Online ^ | 6/7/04 | Staff

MANCHESTER music legend Morrissey sparked controversy when he announced Ronald Reagan's death live on stage during a concert - and then declared he wished it was George Bush who had died instead.

Thousands of fans at Dublin Castle, in Ireland, cheered when the ex-Smiths frontman made the announcement that the former American president, who had battled with Alzheimer's Disease, had passed away.

And an even bigger cheer followed when Morrissey - who is no stranger to controversy - then said he wished it had been the current President, George W Bush, who had died.

Fan Tony Murray said: "He commented about the death of Ronald Reagan and when he wished that it was George W instead the crowd went wild."

The Dublin concert was the latest leg of Morrissey's European tour, which began at the M.E.N. Arena last month when the ever-popular performer made his first appearance in the city for 12 years.

He is due to appear at the Move festival at Old Trafford cricket ground next month.

A spokesman for Morrissey's record label, Sanctuary Records, said: "We do not have a recording of the gig, but as far as we can tell, Morrissey was just alerting the audience to the fact that Ronald Reagan had died.

"He then simply followed that up with his comment about George Bush, which was his own opinion. He is no stranger to controversy."

One of my favorites songs is from the Frenzy album, Where The Hell's My Money, when Mojo goes into the rant about whipping out his .45 and slapping the cold steel barrel up against the club owners head. If I ever catch the SOB's who broke into my truck and stole that CD I'll have to mimic Mojo's actions.

Well Mojo "retired" this spring at the SXSW performance he gave. Of course, it could just all be the start of a lucrative career in "reunion" gigs.

I'm wondering what this world is coming to with all this hatefulness and vitriolic wishing someone dead because they dont agree with them.

What's more SeeBS news told me tonight that Reagan was a great communicator who could get other nations on his side and worked with congressional members who were Democrats. Meanwhile SeeBS followed that with a "comparison" to President George W. Bush's inablity to get foreign nations onboard (nations like what? France? The same nation that refused to let planes fly overhead on a bombing run in Libya?) AND the horrible language that Bush uses for those who don't agree with him.

They make death threats and even elected officials compare him to Hitler. Yep. Bush is a meanine. < /sarcasm >

He still has his radio gigs and I have read rumors that he might be releasing some of his better material on CD. Now if only he would go on spoken word tours.... You've gotta love a guy who got married at a go-kart track.

Should this come as a surprise? Morrissey's first solo album ('Viva Hate') from long ago had a song on it about Margaret Thatcher entitled "Margaret on the Quillotine."

Thanks for the link to the comments page. I just posted this:

One of the many reasons Ronald Reagan is such a beloved figure in America is that he would've never engaged in such sophomoric and hateful rhetoric, especially concerning someone who had just passed away. Reagan's optimism, kindness and humor lifted America - and the world - to new heights.

The irony of it all is that President Reagan's fight FOR freedom and AGAINST communism ended up giving literally hundreds of millions of additional people around the globe a chance to express themselves freely. Such freedom of speech can be used in an educated and constructive way (as Reagan did at the Berlin Wall and many other places throughout his political life) or it can be used in an immature, insensitive way (which is the path Morrissey has unfortunately chosen).

There are some leftists out there, including Morrissey and some of his fans, who actually wish communism had prevailed and are now rooting for terrorism to succeed in countries like Israel and Iraq. Thank God people such as President Reagan, Lady Thatcher, President Bush and Prime Minister Blair have chosen to fight evil. It appears Morrissey and some of his fans have instead chosen to become spokesmen for evil.

When Morrissey dies, most Americans will refrain from stooping to his level by making cruel remarks. Instead, almost all Americans will just have blank expressions on their faces as they ask the same question I asked when I first saw this story: "Who's Morrissey?"

I'm ashamed to admit I have a couple of Morrissey cds. I won't be buying anymore or any Irish products for that matter. F... the Irish.

I love that song. While I'm at it I have to admit my two favorite Smiths songs are 'There is A Light that Never Goes Out' and 'Girlfriend in a Coma'.

He was interviewed by London cops back in the late 80s after his song "Margaret on the Guillotine" was released on the Viva Hate album. His last album Maladjusted really blew. With the new one he's back on track though.

Hmmm.... 'London' is my favorite Smiths tune but there are too many to mention. 'Cemetry Gates', 'Vicar In A Tutu', 'Sweet And Tender Hooligan', 'Panic', etc... As for his solo stuff, never really got into it, although 'Suedehead' is a cool .

Johnny Marr and Bernard Sumner's Electronic project produced some of the best music ever.

Gotta love the leftists.
They ask for input and then pick and choose what input they will accept.
Especially when it goes against their preconceived notions.

Found my commentary on it.
They HEAVILY edited what I typed.
On page 6 of the commentary:

When will musicians quit trying to be political commentators and get back to actually singing and playing music? Music is not the place for politics, and I sincerely wish that musicians would learn that.
