Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Oh no, WN!! I hope it was a Post Office mistake and that they'll resend it without you having to pay another set of postage fees.

I don't have much, but I can send a few bucks if you need it! Let me know, chica, OK?

We're having meatloaf. I hate meatloaf. And my mom's in a bad mood and I don't know why.

Maybe it's a meatloaf day cause she's in a bad mood! ;o)

Maybe your mom has her "Auntie Flo" in town and isn't feeling well, Jen. I hope she cheers up cuz when Momma ain't happy ain't NOBODY happy.

Best to steer clear if nothing seems to brighten her up. This too shall pass.

Hey there, Ramius. Lucky you, no work tomorrow!

I'm dreading tomorrow since I have a stack 4 inches high of new hires, pay rate changes and various other maintenance. I'm getting a new client: 6 payrolls, 400 employees total - almost a hundred different departments and job costs!!

YIKES!!!

Heh...I asked the same question.

I'm not sure we're meant to know.

I did thirty minutes, but on a treadmill, so it was flat. Came to two miles. Time for a shower, and then, with luck, Mom will be feeling happier and I'll offer to mix some lemon drops. Or open some wine. Or do anything to get some alcohol into her, two sips and she mellows out just fine.

That's funny... we just had a fire/evac drill today too.

Kinda pointless, but then again, not. Making people actually go through the motions of an evac is actually a good thing. Panic does bizarre things to people, and they'll do really odd things under stress. Under stress the mind will tend to revert to the closest matching memory and do that thing-- even if it is wildly inappropriate.

They used to tell us in Law Enf school about a couple of newbie FBI agents that got killed in firefights... one of them, in the middle of a shootout-- started picking up his empty brass-- because that's what they'd always done in training at the range. Another was killed when his gun jammed and he stood up and raised his hand-- like they'd done in training.

That's why we never picked up brass at USCG ranges until the guns were all put away, and we were trained to fix our own jams instead of asking for an insructor. Simple stuff, but it's funny what the mind will latch onto under stress.

Paul found a nice wine last week. He came home with several different reislings and we taste-tested them all. Roza Reisling from the Silver Lake Winery in Zillah, WA was DELICIOUS! I went back and bought a half a case of the stuff. It is a lovely fruity taste, slightly sweet. I don't like dry wines, so the German whites work well.

*snif*

I miss German wines. We lived in the wine making region of Germany. I don't know much about wine, but I do know I didn't realize how spoiled I was!
