Help Americans serving abroad assist people in need.

100% of your tax-deductible donation goes to these requests made by Americans serving abroad.

Read the story that inspired Spirit of America.

With bats, balls and gloves donated by their families and friends in the United States, American troops brought baseball to the children of Orgun-e, Afghanistan. Nazim, one of the local players, said, “I like to be a player, not a fighter.” Seeing the difference this made for the local kids Sergeant Jay Smith said, “It’s made me feel the best I ever felt in my life.” Smith also says that baseball and his unit’s other humanitarian activities “literally saved lives.”
Read why.

U.S. Marines Seek to Help Iraqi Children

The 1st Marine Division seeks school supplies, frisbees and soccer balls for Iraqi Kids.

The Marines want to help children like these and improve relations with Iraqis in the 'Sunni Triangle.'
Your donation will have an immediate impact.

$325 provides a supply kit for a classroom and its students.
$100 buys 110 flying discs ("Frisbees").

Any amount helps! Your donation is tax deductible.

From pubmom's email:

A friend sent me this today:

Regardless of who you will vote for in the election this is interesting.

There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq during the month of January..... in the fair city of Detroit (Michigan) there were 35 murders in the month of January. That's one American city folks, about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq!

Worst president in history?

The following appeared in the Durham, NC local paper as a letter to the editor.

Liberals claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war. They complain about his prosecution of it. One liberal recently claimed Bush was the worst president in U.S. history. Let's clear up one point: We didn't start the war on terror. Try to remember, it was started by terrorists BEFORE 9/11.

Let's look at the "worst" president and mismanagement claims.

Lincoln allowed the US to fall into civil war. How would you like a nice Civil war today? You could go and kill your out of state relatives!

FDR led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did.

From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year.

Truman finished that war and started one in Korea, North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,333 per year.

John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us. I think history might show Eisenhower committed the troops and Kennedy was honoring that commitment.

Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800 per year.

Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, Bosnia never attacked us. He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.

In the two years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Lybia, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people. We lost 600 soldiers, an average of 300 a year. Bush did all this abroad while not allowing another terrorist attack at home.

Worst president in history? Come on!

The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but...

It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51 day operation.

We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Teddy Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!

Btw pubmom, when I used this point to argue an anti preemtive strike on Iraq I was told that attacking Germany was OK because they had declared war on us. sheesh! But they didn't attack us!! Isn't that preemptive??! sheesh again.

Good morning!

I had a funny FreepMail...

Freeper "chiller" wrote me yesterday about a post I made. I didn't see it til this morning. At the end he asked "Who's the PGA player?". I hadn't posted anything about Stewart on that thread, but I finally figured out he had looked at my profile and saw "my nephew is on the PGA Tour".

In the Freepmail he went on to tell me a friend of his coaches Ted Purdy! And how excited they all were, cheering for Purdy to win. LOL! I had to write back and tell him my "PGA player" is none other than Stewart Cink! It was funny.

Stewart got good press here - I had no idea that his charge from nine down was the second best ever for the tournament...everyone must be on cloud nine today.

Cheers.

...his charge from nine down was the second best ever for the tournament.

In all humility...:)

His 9 slot charge was the biggest comeback in PGA TOUR (U.S.) history, not just the tournament!

The only bigger charge-from-behind in WORLD golf history was Paul Lawrie's comeback from 10 down in the 1999 British Open.

Cloud 9 indeed! Although I fear that ruling on the last hole may get more bad press as the week progresses. The sports writers love nothing more than a controversy, so Stewart is braced for some blowback. I'm glad he has the PGA rules officials on his side.

How beautiful!

You are all so sweet in your good wishes!

Lisa's birthday is this week, so their whole family is off to "Atlantis" in the Bahamas. (I don't know what that is, but it sounds fun!).

I didn't know there is a controversy - I didn't tune in until Purdy was on 17 and Stewart was already in the clubhouse waiting to see if there'd be a playoff. What's the ruling issue?

And now, back to the real world:

I've decided liberals "want to win the war or terror"...they just don't think it should cost anything....in lives or treasure. They just infuriate me. In the views of today's press, we have to win the war but we musn't lose any "battles" along the way.

Wow - even more impressive!

The article I read was very clear about his moving some rocks or stones, and NOT improving his lie by bothering any of the sand or dirt in the trap...he just doesn't sound like the sort of man who would cheat.

May they have a super holiday and take next week off work.

Spooky, I was just about to post that.

"...they just don't think it should cost anything....in lives or treasure.

They'd rather talk about it than to actually get their hands dirty.

On the last hole Stewart's ball went in a "waste area" (they're rare on tour). It looks like a sand bunker, but is actually filled with tiny shells, pebbles, etc.

In a normal bunker one is not allowed to move the ball or disturb the surface in any way. But the rules are different for a waste area. One is allowed to remove any pebbles or other foreign objects which may interfere with the ball where the clubhead impacts.

As soon as his ball landed he went to the PGA rules official and reviewed with him exactly what he was allowed to do and not do. He followed those instructions to a "t". But viewers saw him on his knees removing objects in "a bunker" and cried foul...said he'd improved his lie.

Some people called the tournament and officials reviewed the tape immediately after the awards ceremony. They ruled in Stewart's favor.
