I, of course, must be the beauty. Right?

Well Duh! Yes. (except it's not "the" Beauty, as there are so many on FR)

Good morning, Swervie. Who's the Beast? I, of course, must be the beauty. Right?

You are that, but I was refering to the anouncement of Lurch and the Breck Girl for the Demon-cratic ticket.

Well, Swervie, the context of your comment WAS a bit obscure. Now that you explained it, it makes perfect sense. Lurch and the Breck Girl. What could be better?

I had several botany classes in college, so I'm familiar with the perennial/annual, native and exotic concepts. There are a few groups here in California, like the Nature
Conservancy and the California Native Plant Society that are attempting to return the grasslands to native perennials. Seems like a pretty monumental task. I've seen a couple of their demonstration projects. One of them in SoCal looks pretty successful, but it took a lot of effort, and a lot of maintenance. Might work for small isolated areas, but as a goal for California? Um, not very likely.

Has anyone else seen Bush's new 60 second add starring John McCain?
It's a hoot, talking about how McCain was Kerry's first choice for VP, followed by extensive clips of McCain campaigning for Bush.

Karl Rove sucked Kerry in beautifully.

Haven't seen it. I didn't watch much TeeVee this weekend. Plus, don't most of these ads play on broadcast TV? Mostly I watch the cable channels if I'm watching. Love to see it though. I wonder if it would be available on the republican party's website....

They just started running it this morning within minutes of Kerry's anouncement of Edwardds as his second choice. Very slick planning.

BTW, this means you know quite a bit more on this topic than I. Any other insights you can share?

I didn't know about the California Native Plant Society, or thepilot projects in SCal, for example.

But the nanny state just can't leave us alone.

There you go being ungrateful for the dedicated efforts of our betters to look after us and to do for us the things which we are incapable of doing for ourselves. You should learn to appreciate your public servants, bow down to them and see that they always get fat pay raises. After all, they're sacrificing you. for you.

I could use the help, but isn't Sweet a gubmint employee?

All the more reason why she would be a great addition to our "team." She has lifetime job security and steady raises. I see income potential here.

You're wearing me out with all your projects, Cheri.

A lady went into a bar in Waco and saw a cowboy with his feet propped up on a table. He had the biggest boots she'd ever seen. The woman asked the cowboy, "Is it true what they say about men with big feet?"
The cowboy grinned and said, "Shore is, little lady! Why don't ya come on out to the bunkhouse and let me prove it to you?"

The woman wanted to find out for herself, so she spent the night with him.

The next morning she handed him a $100 bill.

Blushing, he said, "Well, thankee, ma'am. Ah'm real flattered. Ain't nobody ever paid me fer mah services before."

The woman replied, "Don't be flattered . . .take the money and buy yourself some boots that fit.

There is a project in the Delta area where they are trying grazing, burning, and combinations thereof, and exclusion of grazing. It is one of those natural areas, I can't remember the name of it, but if I look at a map, I can probably find it. The area is SoCal is east of San Diego. The Nature Conservancy purchased a ranch, and I believe they mostly burned. Timing of the burns makes a big difference. I don't remember all of the particulars, it was several years ago since I was there. It was impressive, though. Along with the native grasses were some native wildflowers in greater abundance than would be found with the annual grasses.

Here too. The weather has been nuts this year....unseasonably cool, with occasional days of extreme hot and humid.
