Mr. C4E is having trouble with Outlook Express. Email can be sent successfully from server website webmail. Outlook Express is not connecting with server. Setting appear to be correct as I set up another mail account in Outlook. Any help would be appreciated. Freepers know everything.

If you have a router and/or firewall on your end there could be a problem there. Especially if you've updated one of these recently.

According to statistics, your thread will result in the following:
50% of the posts will consist of FReepers berating you for using outlook. 20% of them will insist that Bill Gates worships Satan.
30% of the posts will consists of FReepers who insist you should be using Linux or an alternative OS and Email software.
15% of the posts will have technically viable content, but 10% of that information will result in reformatting your hard drive.
5% of the posts will not have anything to do with the original question, 4% of them will be flame related, and 1% of them will be lame attempts at humor, but at least I've covered that part.
OK, enough of that...
Actually, what I would ask is what other software do you have running? Any security software or other significant software running in the background? I wish I could give you an answer off hand, but that would be my first question. Perhaps you can post more details of the environment you are running. Version of Windows...firewalls...anything. I won't get a chance to see this again for hours so here's to hoping for a solution before I do.

Outlook Express sometimes has problems on a network. Try Outlook.

About 2 weeks ago my son (a systems analyst) convinced me that Outlook (or Outlook Express) was hopelessly unpatchable and dangerous. I asked him what he would recommend instead, telling him it had to be free, and he recommended Mozilla Thunderbird. I downloaded it and it automatically detected by exiting Outlook settings, imported my contacts, and has worked flawlessly since then. It was so good that I also downloaded Mozilla's (free) browser, Firefox, to replace Internet Explorer. It's great too. I'm not a Microsoft basher, but this is one case where there seems to be a superior alternative. Things work so similarly that there was no learning curve.

You might want to check your 'cookies' file to see if Mozilla has snuck a few in there and also try "AdAware (free) to see if Mozilla is tampering in other areas.
I don't use anything from Mozilla or Gator for these reasons.

call your isp tech support. that's the fastest way to be led thru the problem.

Interesting.... I've been using one version or another of a Mozilla product for several years. I currently use Firefox. I used Firebird before that and plain old Mozilla before that. Never has Mozilla "snuck a cookie" into my files. I'm not aware that Mozilla resorts to subtrefuge-- in fact, they do quite the opposite. And to put Mozilla and Gator in the same category is just plain ignorant.

I liked your humor soooo much, I am giving you first crack at a reply. :) Yes, he is running Norton firewall and Norton systems(?). We have disabled the firewall. Still no success. This has happened since he changed ISP servers. Old server no problem...new...has been nothing but problems. And the old worked fine even with the Norton stuff. He has called server tech support, they have been no help. The main problem is the large address list for fans of his band. He sends out a notice by email on the upcoming gigs. Now if I knew how to take that email list from Outlook Express and move it to the server web site and use their address book. Problem solved. That task is beyond my capabilities. I gotta say Freepers are the best.

Thanks for your reply....this might be the problem.

Freepers are the best. They help out like family. Thanks to all who replied. We will call tech support again. If it is the Norton..and he might have done an upgrade...this would likely be the problem. Hugs and Kisses

Sorry for the omission...Windows 98. Outlook Express version 6.
