The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Good evening, all!
Just finished music night. Brothers didn't show, for some reason...so it was just me and three others. Was nice in a way - we had more song picks and could take more time on each one. And now we know we COULD play an OK gig with that few instruments, if we had to.
Missed the fiddle and whistle, though.

Work was ok... rained so hard this morning some roads got flooded, so I didn't leave for work until 10:30.
We didn't mind. ;)
To: RosieCotton
Sounds like ya'll had a pretty good music session then. Good to know you can do it with just you if necesary. Even if not preferred! :-)

Right now, we are waiting for a severe T-storm that's supposed to be moving this way. There is talk of a flash flood watch but it's not here yet. We're on the very southern edge of where the storm is supposed to go so we just might miss it.

Yep. If nothing else, it means that if we're offered gigs, I can probably just take 'em even if brothers won't commit to being there.
So there! ;-)

What part of Texas is it that's getting drenched? Some of the guys at work were talking about it today (lotta weather geeks at the college...meteorology is one of the majors they're known for), but I didn't think I'd heard any of you mention it.

I think that is a good plan Rosie. You never can tell, it just might get your brothers to learn to walk the straight and narrow with ya'll just a bit better too. If they realize you will go without them, things may look a bit different for them.

We had a big-*ss cluster of thunderstorms go through between 7:00 and 9:00 this morning, but once they passed through it pretty much stopped raining. The flooding was localized, only affecting low-lying roads and places with poor drainage. So, it was over pretty quickly!

FR is slow tonight...Evening Bear, Good time to start a new thread! I'll do it now since there seem to be enough folk around this evening to warm it....

Yep.
We ALMOST picked the song list for an upcoming open mic without them, too...it always ends up being a major headache because EITHER it becomes a hugh fight OR one brother gets assigned and doesn't actually pick songs until the day we play, and then doesn't get why people are upset.
But we decided we'd let them have some input. Just to be nice...

We've had heavy storms over west Texas for the last 2 or 3 days. They move northeast and the last of them has been coming over us here. We've had showers but nothing heavy like those west and southwest of us. I heard today they were hitting central Texas - Bear and Rose's area heavier like they were West Texas earlier in the week.
Heck, here we need the rain. Our lakes are only about half level and we've been on water rationing for over a year. What comes through barely does anything toward making up for the last couple of year's drought.

but once they passed through it pretty much stopped raining. Well, you know by now what we say of Texas weather. If you don't like it... wait a minute. :-)

The storms that went through here (Austin) this morning dumped about 2-3 inches of rain in the 1-2 hours they lasted.
To: HairOfTheDog
Okay, ping us when we're going! Elves aren't as resistant to moving as Hobbits. I'll try to help ya'll along! :-)
