The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hmmmm... my figure didn't look like it does now a year ago. Cookin' healthy meals for Myranda daily and spending every weekend sitting in the hospital with Grama had me 3 sizes bigger than now. Remember about this time last year when everyone was talking about getting in shape for entmoot and I said I must be the only one on a weight gain curve?

Then, Myranda left, Grama died, I quit cooking, didn't even have much of an appetite for a good while and I lost about 40 pounds. Not intentionally at all. Prolly not a good way to do it.

My friends Bob and Kay's 6 year old is in Karate.... and they went for their first semi-competition/demonstration last week... and she said it was funny watching... the boys would go at it, and Kay was nervous always that Jessie would get hurt.... but then her turn came and it was pitiful watching these two six year old girls, neither of which really wanted to hit the other.... Bob (picture Southern sherrif) yelling "Come on Jessie!" Hit her!"

That was the image I had of the side kicks!

I had this image of Jill in her self defense classes when she was 8 or 9 years old. She could kick every-which-way is VEY unnatural ways! Ways that I don't think we was intended to go!

I never don't have an appetite. If anything, I eat MORE when under pressure. And apparently it's really hard for me to lose anything, 'cause I've been avoiding sweets and most starches except for on Sundays and eating pretty healthy and not very much otherwise, and it just ain't happening.

But even a few years ago I weighed 25 pounds less than I do now. I can't even quite fathom that...I thought the scale wasn't working until Dad's read the same number. I'd like to get back to that, but so far I haven't made progress at all. Besides starving or spending even MORE time running around, I don't know how this is gonna work. I'm hoping I'll start losing again. I can handle slow...it's the no change at all that's getting to me.

You're doing everything right, Rosie, so I'd say it's just going to take your body a little bit to figure out it needs to start losing.

Are you doing the fitday thing? And, low carb is more expensive, but I speak from experience, it works.

The base I was on in Germany hosted some martial arts competitions...mostly karate, but some other disciplines as well. There were more solo demonstrations than fights, but in any case it was VEY cool. I've always thought I'd like to learn martial arts...though I wouldn't know where to start and it seems like most people start as little kids.

On the other hand, Dad had a little boy come in to the emergency room a little while ago who was hurt really badly in a training session. Another boy kicked a bit too hard in the wrong place. He had to be transported to another hospital, so I guess it was pretty serious.

I imagine girls aren't always as rough, though. ;)

I've been doing the fitday thing on and off, but I'm going to try to be more consistant.

And I'm at least trying to eat a balanced diet. Not really low carb, but higher in protein than I might normally eat. More like Mom used to do...meat, some sort of starch, and vegetables.

I did lose a few pounds at the very beginning of all this...but I've been stuck at the same number for must be almost a month.

I am sure there was someone in every emergency room in the country today who was seriously injured in the bathroom. ;~D

Oh, I know! But there's gotta be SOME inherent risk to an activity that involves punching and kicking. If'n you aim wrong...bad things happen!

I worried about Jill at competitions at first because she was SO dadgummed little! I mean she was half the weight of most of the boys she competed with. But, she wasn't afraid to hit or kick. She was so wirey and quick that she did pretty well. It seemed like she could kick higher than her legs outta be able to extend! Was entertaining. hehehe

She didn't ever get hurt much. Few bruises now and then, nothing more.

I dunno... the first three or four years I worked here I was the only male in an all-female department. Women can be pretty mean when they want... waaaay meaner than men. :-)
