The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Well, given the theme, I think leis would be nice. But, then I don't know if the guys would want to be wearing those. hehehe...

Whichever you make I can already tell they are going to be nice.

I have done some homemaker stuff today. A friend of mine gave Myranda some nice curtains and a valance that she loved when we first moved in here. She was never able to use them in the old room because the friend back home didn't realize Myranda had more windows than she made window dressing. Her new room only has one window so it now has the pretty stuff she liked.

AND I was thinking as I put this up that this stuff looks exactly like something you would like because you have said before that you like burgundy and green. This is a nice floral print with those colors and a dark blue. Looks like prints I've seen you wear. I think you would like. :-)

I don't think it's real angst if you can talk yourself out of it in two paragraphs :)

Eh, it's all I've got to work with. The darkness of my soul is really more of a washed-out gray.

Ugh. Funerals are painful. However the sun is shining for the first time in a whole week.

Well, you still care for him. Tell him welcome back, from all the folks here.

Will do! :-) He was always a *good* kid! 'Cept, he's not a kid anymore. I calculate him to be about 31 now. He might not appreciate me callin' him a kid. :-) He's a sweetie though. And has a little daughter waitin' for him in Spanaway that hasn't seen him in months now! I know he's gonna be glad to see her! :-)

Will pass on the welcomes! :-)

LOL! That's actually a good thing, Jen :) Besides, hobbits are supposed to like green and yellow anyway :) Although this may interfere with your Evil Overlordess plans. . .

Ugh. Funerals are painful.

How's the family doing?

However the sun is shining for the first time in a whole week.

It was like that here yesterday, but today it's overcast and there's 40 mph winds--hope that doesn't mean tornadoes! A thunderstorm would be nice, though--I kinda like storms as long as they don't damage anything.

The family seems to be about as well as you could expect. Hope they weren't listening to the message, it was the least comforting thing I've ever heard at a funeral.

Sigh... brothers are asking me to take them out somewhere and I might just do that. Don't really want to but I don't want to sit around the house either.

Too bad there's probably not an anime fest in the area you can take them to :)

No, I respect my mother's desires that much - she thinks anime is evil. I'm not going to get my brothers hooked.

The cool sister is another matter. It's up to her to induct anyone else she feels ready... I'm moving before that time will come. Heh, and taking my anime collection with me so she'll have to come up with something.

Anime fests would be on my own, I fear. Ah well. One thing that will be nice when I have an apartment is keeping my anime out in plain sight.

Some anime is evil! But you can sift through the chaff and find the wheat, so to speak. But anyway, what are you going to take your brothers to, then?

Ya'll have a good time at the beach house! You need to give Ramius a good back-scratchin' for me! :-)

I'm glad to hear the weather is giving Chad a good welcome! His mom said she didn't go over to meet him cause it was supposed to be a special homecoming day with him and his daughter. :-) He'll be headed east to see all the family in a day or two.

Took 'em to the bookstore. Checked out the manga of 'Inu-yasha' which I've heard is a good anime/manga, and also '.Hack' which I see talked about all the time. Also looked at the comics but couldn't decide on anything.

Yes, some anime is evil. My mother believes all anime is either like Pokemon, or is hentai. I haven't had seven hours to give her a real discussion. Then again, it might not go so well. (See, Kenshin's this swordsman guy who used to be a killer but now he's mostly over that... Escaflowne's got these wonderful battle scenes with giant robots... Ranma's a guy unless you drench him with cold water, and then he's a girl...)

Just got back from church. How'd you like what you saw of Inuyasha and .Hack? I think the latter is on TV sometimes, too.

On the other topic, yeah, there's some bad stuff like that in anime that's become more predominant in recent years, which is another reason I haven't gotten more into the genre. Fortunately I've also seen enough of the stuff that's not like that to be able to look past that, but I can see how your mom might not see things that way. BTW, on Ranma, I've noticed that's kind of a theme in Kung Fu movies, too. I saw one Jet Li did where the villain was a male sorceror who, in order to get near a rival to assassinate them, turned himself into a female; but then he ended up falling in love with his rival! It made for some interesting plot twists--it was kind of influenced by some of the gender humor in Shakespeare's comedies (Jet Li actually borrows a lot from Shakespeare in his Chinese movies)--but I can see how that motif might get carried away in anime.

Inuyasha looks promising. Will probably read a few of the manga in a bookstore before making any decision. .Hack isn't quite my thing - I'm not really into RPGs - but looks like a good way to spend time in a bookstore again. Am also tracking down information on a manga called 'Samurai Deeper Kyo' which I think is also an anime and is apparently Kenshin-esque.

I'm very careful about anime. I usually make someone else recommend it to me before I see it so as to avoid getting burned.

And Ranma's silly but I think I prefer it in anime rather than manga. The voices really added to the experience. Um. And it's just odd - have you seen any Ranma?
