The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I thought about going on my Harley. :-)

But, I'd just as soon set 'em back with my sarcasm and wit. hehehe

Couple of the guys were really amused and then nice about it. Couple of them remained in their assinine salesman persona. We know *they* will not be selling me anything. :-)

So, you got anything I might wanna buy Mister? ;-P

Actually... don't feel picked on. Car salesdroids treat guys like idiots too. It's what they do. The first hour is only spent sizing up "how big of a doofus is this one?"

I do understand that women feel especially picked on, and probly that's true. I've accompanied a couple of womenfriends on car buying trips merely as token male, to try to keep the BS down a little.

Several years ago I did this with a woman bud, and we were both really impressed by the salesdroids at Saturn. They were a completely no-BS outfit. They had cars, and they had a price list. No "how stupid are you" sticker. No haggling. They didn't work on commission. They said "these are the cars we have and these are our prices". At the time... it was the best car for the money, and she bought one.

Now if only more car dealers would adopt a model like that...

Well, after all these years I'm pretty used to the attitude of car salesguys. It just never fails to incite me anew each time I go for it! LOL

You would at least think that in this time someone would have trained them with a clue as to how *not* to generalize wimmin like this. I mean, I am thinking that any of you Hobbit Hole guys would have that much sense inately! Hopefully, I am not giving you to much credit. LOL

I was really impressed by the lady salesperson who did find the truck to meet my specifications. As has been hashed around here lately not many of us Hobbit Hole wimmin are very impressed with female co-workers and supervisors, but that saleslady was very professional and didn't once try to argue me into something besides what I wanted. And she made a couple of calls and *found* something fitting my criteria. Really, how hard is that concept?

Since you have seen the attitude toward females, now imagine what happens to me when I go to a Harley dealership to look at new bikes. Even if I *ride* in, it is difficult to even get a salesguy to talk to me. And they *always* ask if I'm looking for my husband! Like I could not possibly be thinking of buying for *myself!* HA!!! And I bet I can outride nearly any of those guys!!!

According to the Funeral home, the funeral director set it up. He called at 9:00am Sunday and sent a fax of Grandpa's discharge papers to New Orleans to prove eligibilty, and a map of where the cemetery is. The funeral was Wednesday at 1:00pm.

Ramius; right you are, but I've got certain specifics we look for, I tell 'em and give them 'that really dumb' look if they deviate from the basic specs.

The internet and the car test mags have helped enormously for us luddites that enter the car buying arena every 10-15 (or 19 in the present case with LSA's car). Things do change a lot, imho. :-)

300winmag; wow, great job on snagging the official HH knife at a such a great price.

Does this mean you are going to discontinue the HH knife testing program? Those are some great reviews, ever think of doing them for 'Blade' magazine? :-)

My last car buying trip was a little odd. I really did not have any intention of buying the car. I was looking for the 2000 mustang, but wanted a red one. I visited a few dealers and just ended up walking away for a few days.

I went to a dealer waaaay outta town, and all they had was a white one and a black one. "I want a red one" I said. "Can't find a red one" they said. "Then I'll wait for 2001", I said (it was late 1999). I really didn't care about it all that much. After the usual "OK... what would it take for you to buy that car today BS..." I finally said "OK... I'd settle for that white one at $x." this was about 30% under the sticker, and in truth I liked the white one WAY better than red anyway.

After a couple of the usual... "no way... can't do that" stuff... and ready to walk out... they actually came back and said "OK". Well... crap. So I bought the car.

The trick I guess... is to not really want to buy the car.

msdrby : that sounds like the correct procedure was followed. However, it could have been something like, the person who handles that is on vacation and the replacement was sick.

Sorry to hear about the lack of attention to a veteran's family request.

That was stupid. It was late 2000, not 1999. I have a brain cloud.

Ramius; that's a good way to buy a car. Bought an old beater suburban to use for a hunting rig from a fella at work. Offered him half what he was asking and without a moment's hesatation, he said Okay, like you, I bought it. It was a good ol huntin rig, all it needed was a sign saying "this is not abandoned, please don't tow".

I thought I'd lay down for five minutes after my last post and I fell asleep for two hours--I guess I was more beat than I knew!

Anyway, I had no idea Stargate took that much from Atlantis. I guess I'll have to see Stargate. Is the TV series of the same name the same storyline and characters?

BTW, how's your story coming?

My sweet little G.R.I.T.S. replies do that quite nicely as a rule. :-)

What's that about grits? :)

It sounds like someone on the other end of the fax should get reamed. Try complaining to your congressbeing, too. It was a raw deal, and a lot of people were hurt.

No idea about the Stargate series, I think it's at least the same storyline.

My story will be done by Sunday night, that I know. Tonight's a black mood and I'm rather reveling in angst. Tomorrow's a funeral and... well, I don't know that I'll get anything done. So Sunday I'll finish. I almost know how.

Very true--apparently some salesmen have been trained to think that's how selling works. Not for this customer.

Your story's in a black mood or you are? I hope that wasn't triggered by you running out of anime! :)

Yeah right. I'm the dingy woman. LOL

You would have loved being with me in the years after I got my first bike. Back then there still weren't women riding very often at all. I got to show *all* those guys that the dingy redhead could keep up with 'em! :-)

Sorry was gone for a minute. The twins came to see me again! :-)
