The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Buggin' you guys again...
We MAY have another gig. Just was asked if we could play at commencement...just before, actually, while people are being seated. It would be another gig where we're just off to the side and not the focus of attention...which I like! Only thing is Bilbo isn't sure if the bagpipe band will be busy.
Grrr...it tees me off in a way, because they never know ahead of time if they'll have something, but if *we* ever want to plan a gig ahead of time, he says "Well...maybe...if the bagpipers aren't doing something." Which means...we can't really plan any more than a week or two in advance, because it MIGHT conflict with something.
Maybe I should just go with Stephen and knock their socks off with just a duo. Sigh.

Glad to hear you survived your midterm review without getting bored to death! :)

Heh....maybe you should plan 2 programs for every gig: one with and one without.
In the professional freelance musician world, my sister either says "sorry" to second-comers or finds someone to substitute for the first commitment.

Y'all need to figure out some sort of code phrase! That way no one will know you're sending up a big fat S O S when you type it! That's a stunningly good idea.
It'll be a reference to "eagles", as in... needing rescue from someplace really bad. :-)

"7-layer nachos rule! Nachos! Nachos!"

"Hey, by the way, Butthead, did you ever hear the one about the kid who stole the nacho cheese? His dad sent him to the store to pick up some nacho cheese, but he came home with some Swiss cheese. His dad told him he got the wrong kind of cheese. The kid answered that he was sure it was the right kind of cheese, because when he ran out of the store the owner yelled after him, 'That's not yo cheese! That's not yo cheese!' See, nachos--not yours, get it?--uh-heh-heh!"
"Beavis, if you tell that joke again, I'm going to smack you. Actually, I oughtta just smack you anyway." [SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!] "Uh-huh-huh. . . ."

It just frustrates me to no end, though. It's unprofessional to drag things out without giving the asker an answer. And if he ISN'T going to be there, I want to know ahead of time so I can either say no or plan accordingly.
He doesn't see the problem, because the guy who mostly runs the band is the same way - just kinda does stuff on the fly, and so far they haven't gotten in trouble for that. But at some point, Bill either has to figure out the bagpiping schedule more ahead of time OR say that whichever is officially scheduled first has priority. Can you imagine a big name band turning down gigs because they MIGHT get something better?

I really like Merry Sisters of Fate!
I'm very busy...trying to get caught up on the laundry so I won't have to deal with it over the weekend that much.

We have knives again!!! I just ordered 20 from a dealer at $17.07 each. He has access to almost 1000, and said he'd order 100 for us, to buy as we needed.
God willing, the war would end today, and we could go out of business. But at least we're set for the long haul with those many knives available.

This is a REALLY new one, too...recorded in December! It's very, very good. Did I mention that before? Doesn't hurt that they're such nice guys, either. ;-) Just reading those signatures reminds me of when *I* got to meet them, and how wonderful they were. Just the nicest, most down to earth folks!
Really makes me sad that they aren't playing near here for the foreseeable future (they're booked through early 2005, best I can tell). *snif*

This is the CD he gave me. I think Amazon has it, but they aren't going through Green Linnet anymore.
The playing on it is beyond their earlier music. Just makes me want to cheer or cry in places. Whew!

I just sent this letter to Sam Johnson, our Congressman:

Re: Military Funeral (Dis) Honors
Dear Mr. Johnson,
Im writing on behalf of my wife, [Msdrby], and her family. We lay to rest her grandfather, Mr. O.J. Johnson, this past Wednesday, 31March. Mr. Johnson was a US Navy veteran, having served honorably aboard the USS Belle Isle (AG-73) during World War 2 and for some period in the Navy Reserve after his discharge from active duty.
Having served honorably, Mr. Johnson was entitled to Military Honors at his funeral service. The Honor Guard did not show up for the funeral. To the best of my knowledge, the Honor Guard had been contacted in sufficient time to plan for this funeral. Mr. Johnson did have a flag for his casket.
At the conclusion of the service, the funeral director and Mr. Johnsons brother Oran folded the flag. My wife and I, each a fellow veteran, along with the family in attendance were very disappointed to not have the Honor Guard available for this sacred task. We sorely missed the rifle salute and the playing of Taps as well.
I do not know where the Honor Guard detail was scheduled to come from, but would like to learn what happened. The entire family has some bitter feelings about this perceived dishonor for a fallen hero.
Respectfully,
[Professional Engineer]

Domo arigato!--or something like that :)Um, you do know that 'domo arigato' means 'thank you very much', right? I don't know more than three Japanese phrases, but that's one of them. It is very wise to be able to thank someone in his own language.
There were a couple animes I hadn't seen before on tonight--Witch Hunter Robin and Inuyasha--seen either of those?
I've had Inu-yasha recommended to me.... was it any good?
