The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Thanks you! It was very much shameless vanity to fish for compliments on it like that. I am just rather proud of it.... I am sorry. :~D

There had better be a webcast. I think Ramius should do color commentary for us.

Whatcha up to, Rosie? Haven't seen you around for a few hours. Work going ok?
Hmmm... tell me... I very rarely think actors are cute or handsome (certain major exceptions)... so is it really, really weird to think anime characters are cute?

We've never done it before. Tenebrae apparently comes from the Latin word meaning 'shadow'. It kind of reminds me of 'Lessons and Carols' at Christmas. There is a short reading leading into a song. There are 7 candles on the altar, and after each song, one is extinguished, so that at the end, the church is in darkness. It sounds like it can be a powerful thing. The last song is "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross", which is really pretty.
We're doing this the Friday before Holy Week. Holy Thursday is it's own liturgy with the "Washing of the Feet" and all that, so the Tenebrae couldn't be done that night. On Good Friday afternoon we have the "Living Way of the Cross" where the different 'Stations' of the Cross are acted out. In the evening there is a prayer service with no Communion. Tenebrae could be done that night, and maybe we'll do that next year. It's the logical place to put it!
On Saturday night, the Vigil Mass is a big deal because we have Baptism and Confirmation of the adults who have gone through Instruction during the previous year to become Catholics. On Easter Sunday we have the longer liturgy and special music for the Mass.

Looks like an interesting book. If you go the the
Ignatius Press web site, there are several books about Tolkien's writings.
