The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Um...no...this is one thing duct tape is NOT good for.

Sticks to the hair, don't ya know. Such a mess!

But she found a chair and settled down, so I think we're OK, except that one of the other cats is ticked off because she smells funny. Tough.

You know it's real when shoveling horse poo becomes romantic.

[snif] Oh, ain't that the truth...

None of my ex's ever got to the poo-shoveling stage. Dangit.

Auditor found 10 areas (findings against) where the City was doing things against laws or rules -- like overcharging for travel, incorrectly using credit cards, not keeping an inventory of police weapons, that sort of thing. It's the big news. And the Finance Director was quoted as saying it's all the fault of the auditor because the auditor is out to get him.

So explain to me why I took this job again?

I found an article by a guy named Vogel at the Trib: "Weak oversight of spending cited". Is that the story?

Seems pretty weak to me. Though, sure, local governments blow lots of money on stupid crap all the time. I'm sure there's lots of waste. Duh. It's government. But the waste that he's crowing about seems pretty small potatoes. Hell... I blow a lot more money than that every year, and I HAVE a boss that checks out my spending.

But the Trib *does* have it in for the city. They're paranoid for a reason. Ever since the whole Brame thing, it's open season for the Trib WRT to the city, and they even have a doe tag.

Too bad there isn't a media outlet that will touch the story about the Trib and their total vendetta.

My staff are almost entirely young women. Condescending, arrogant, insubordinate young (20 years younger than I)b*****s, who of course consider me to be incompetent and not up to their professional standards.

They aren't babes (in the sense you mean)...but it definitely wasn't "the babes".

That was one of five stories on the subject in the front section of the Trib today.

I imagine that depends on whether you are the mouse. I am ambivalent about it....

There's blood in the water with them for sure. But they've got monopoly -- like most other cities rags. Nothing you can do about it...except get out of government. I have to live with them every day I have this job. No choice. Can't start a p#####g match with people who have bladders the size of ink barrels (or some such mixed metaphor).

I'm an alto! Though sometimes in our choir, it's hard to tell, everyone's singing his own note.

Yawn... back from choir... and it's just about bedtime.

That figures. The Trib will not be satisfied until the entire Tacoma government is turned over. That's just how it is going to be, I think. Too bad they keep pointing fingers at the wrong people.
