The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I LIKE that picture.
One of these days I hope I can do a long backpacking trip there.
And then there's the Appalachian Trail. Gotta do that sometime, too.
Could at least do parts of it, if the snow'd ever melt!

I got up early and did my workout - weightlifting. It went well and I'm considering switching my runs to early morning. They say you burn more fat that way... it just means getting up an hour earlier. But on the other hand, I feel pretty great right now.If your schedule permits it, I find exercising in the morning definitely gives you more energy during the day.

Went to the ob doc this morning, he measured me at 34-35 cm. Thinks the baby is gonna be a big one, he does. I go back in 2 weeks, right before Easter.

What kind of range does that thing have? Can I swing on buildings or is it only rated for child weight ranges.

I for one should not give you a hard time about your cat's names.

I am really sorry about what the doc said regarding your kitty. Not a nice position to be in. I had to make that decision on elf-boy's puppy 2 years ago. The puppy got parvo and had to be hospitalized. If the puppy had stayed in the hospital another week, it may have made it, but I was not prepared to shell out that kind of money on a pet. I had already put the puppy in there for a week, and had basically gone into debt for it. The day after he came home, I took the day off from school, and tried to nurse the puppy back, but he was just too sick and didn't make it. I felt so guilty about it thinking if I had just kept him in the hospital a few more days...
Can't go down that road when you are pinching pennies. what was more important to me was my son, not the puppy.

or the next best thing, exercising over lunch... I am going to be sore tomorrow :PLOL! Over lunch is good if that fits your schedule--I used to do that on my lunch hour at work to help me offset stress-induced fatigue. These days I work from home and I prefer to exercise before breakfast, so that way it's out of the way before I try digesting anything. However I should mention that what I do before breakfast isn't my cardiovascular routine; it's more like a standing version of Yoga--sort of--it's actually called Chi Kung and basically involves standing in a deep stance (thus relaxing the upper body) and doing deep breathing while rotating through a series of five hand postures that stretch different parts of the lungs/internal organs. I do that for about 30-45 minutes every morning, followed by some stretching, after my shower and before eating, which helps wake me up for the day. Stuff that involves heavy cardiovascular activity I prefer to do later in the day, mostly because the Chi Kung is supposed to be relaxing so I don't like to do something high-intensity right afterwords and therefore I try to space my workouts out. But if I was doing cardio/weightlifting as the main focus of my routine I'd probably do that in the morning. I'd probably work out over lunch if I was eating lunch at work--I used to do some light Chi Kung stretches over lunch and my 15-minute breaks to help keep me awake at work. Do you have a gym at work?--that's nice to have.

Sorry to hear it Rosie. That sounds like what my dog Facha had. But, here's the good thing. After her surgery, it didn't come back for almost 2 years - we didn't elect to the chemo either. We gave her benadryl and...oh, p-word.. what is it?? prednesone? Anyway, it turned her into a happy puppy again. She was 12 yrs. old. And had gotten really slow to move around. But she was happy and frivolous all over again. And, we had that time to spend with her, 2 whole years where every day with her counted. We didn't worry anymore about her diet and putting on weight or her learning bad habits like begging for food at table. We spoiled her rotten, we did. I spent a lot of time on the floor with her too, and she gained a seat on the sofa..that kind of thing. She had a happy last years. I guess if she had gone of a sudden occurrance, it would have been even much worse in a way.

Can't remember who all might quilt, and some of ya'll I pinged I know don't, but I wanted to "show off" a bit. This is the quilt I was making for my sister-in-law. She told me not long ago that she's wanted a homemade quilt her whole life and never had one. I had this top finished but hadn't had time to quilt it. My boss' mom has a friend in Oklahoma who quilted it for me since I didn't had time. Just got it back from her yesterday! She did a beautiful job! Now, all I've got to do is bind the edges and give it to my s-i-l!!! I can't wait! She is going to be *so* excited!
Gnad, I pinged you so you could show mrsnad!
