The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

And I believe he's going to build a shed--- right on the property line. Are there no setback requirements in your town? I'd be calling the Building dept. asap to have someone pay Mr. Doughboy a visit to have a little talk! It is especialy important if he's mucking with the run-off area!

What's your race this afternoon?

Make sure you know where your exact property line is Oh we do. And he does, too. Three of us neighbors, who bound his property, went in together on a survey. Doughboy let us pay for it and he got his corners marked. (did I mention he was tacky??)
This shed is going to be huge- 16x20 perhaps. Practically a small barn. There are two ways to get him on this. 1) He probably needs a building permit and probably doesn't have one. 2) Buildings have to be 40ft from the property line. He's maybe 5ft from the line now. The catch will be whether his minibarn qualifies.
He also removed his silt fence- that black tarp material that builders place around properties to control runoff. Ya only get to remove that when 3 yrs have passed (and you've established a lawn) or a county inspector says you can (which ours hasn't). We're going to be calling county anyway about the whole drainage/erosion problem we have so we might have to drop a little comment or two. Heh heh heh.

Is that to help you in your aspirations to become an Evil Overlord?--or is that Overlady? :) I believe the proper term is Evil Overlordette - but no, that's not my actual ambition. My little sister is well on her way to becoming a Dark Lord; I plan to sit back and enjoy the show.
Actually, I use it as a conversation piece and as a "my bad guy isn't making these particular mistakes, is he" tool. Didn't I mention Diana Wynn Jones' Tough Guide to Fantasyland the other day? That works on the same principles.

I think Doughboy was my neighbor years and years ago actually.... we finally ran him of in '86 I think. Moved in down the street from one of my uncles 40 miles away for a few years... when he left nobody knew where he went.
Now, we know!

Won't the trees stop it?
To: JenB
I thought Overlord (or I guess it's technically Overlordette) was one of your many names?--seems like I remember a post about that :) If that's not your ambition, what title do you actually aspire to, and what are your plans for taking over the world?
I don't know Tough Guide to Fantasyland--what's that?
BTW, I just finished the first part of Taming of the Shrew; about to read the next part.
To: Overtaxed
Won't the trees stop it? It's a drainage area. It had one tree. Doughboy cut it down. (also illegal in this county.)

Can you please, please, set up a webcam for this? Better yet, we thought of a Doughboy theme song- ala Rush Limbaugh:
Doughboy At Work Theme Song
We will try to get some pictures, though.

Oh dear....so if his shed washes into your house, whose insurance pays for it?
To: Overtaxed
We'll make him pay for it- fer breaking every building code there is. :P
