The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

He loves it. He wanted to take it to school, but I vetoed that idea.

LOL!--good veto :) I used to get in trouble playing superheroes on the playground 'cause the teachers thought we played too rough :)

Hmmm--sounds like he was good at doing it regularly but still off-schedule enough to be surprising?

Yeah, not *all* the time. But, more often than just the normal special days. And sometimes just because something *really* good happens or something terrible happens.

I can see the logic behind that: little things that are unique to her say that you appreciate what's special about her. I can definitely see how to apply that. How about the way you give it to her--is it important to set it up a certain way?

but what is it about getting flowers that a woman likes?

Ya made me spit my drink of water!!! I dunno! Just like 'em! They're pretty, colorful, smell nice. I think they're very special to get.

This seems so logical now that you explain it--I'm kicking myself for not noticing this myself all the times I've made this mistake! Definitely makes sense.

Yeah, when you get to know someone very well, you can detect the subtle differences in personality that tell you today she might need a pick-me-up. My dad was that way with my mother. He would completely surprise her *exactly* when she needed it. Itmay have been that he loved her so much, or that he just always was thinkign of different ways to honor her. Sometimes his littles gifts were a bit off the mark, but they were ALWAYS appreciated. Mom didn't *really* care what it was, it was that Dad gave it to her that made it special.

Okay, this is getting into a different subject, but this raises another thing I've had a hard time with: what is the best way for the guy to deal with it if the woman is depressed, either from PMS or otherwise? 'Cause sometimes I've tried to offer a pick-me-up but it seems like I manage to do the wrong thing with good intentions somehow. What is the best way to cheer up a woman who's depressed without getting her mad at you in the process?

Fedora, you gotta have a lady that treats you that way too though. It needs to go both ways. I've gone on *way* too much on this topic. :-)

But, everyone who deserves to be treated that way would treat you like a king as well. You oughtta not settle for less. You guys need to be spoiled and pampered too. So, don't fall into something with someone who doesn't reciprocate in some way.

A really good romance is when *both* people are doin' the romancin'. Things are really cool that way!

There is that too! :-D

Sometimes it's not something really understood huh?

But, the other thing is, it really ticks me off to see women who are getting treated nicely like this and *don't* appreciate it. Or reciprocate. eeek!

But, self-centeredness seems to be a problem for some of both genders huh?

I agree with WN on this, btu you could start with a large spoon (make that two large spoons) and a half gallon of her favorite ice cream.

Yeah! And what you really want to know is if the lady is as smitten with wildflowers as I am!!! They're free! LOL

Gees they could make me goose pimply all over when he stopped by the side of the road to pick 'em for me too!!! LOL

Somewhere along the lines I shoulda developed more refined tastes huh?
