The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

"Somehow it has to occur to people that it is merely a device to fund local corruption with a ready supply of utterly untraceable cash."

That's not too far off from a good description of taxes in general: money confiscated by government and politicians from the citizens, to be used to finance a rapid increase of power needed to arbitrarily control the same citizens, in the best interests of the state.

Top Cat, The Banana Splits, Secret Squirrel, Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Huckleberry Hound, Wacky Races (catch the pigeon...), Hong Kong Phooey, Captain Caveman. The list goes on.

Think my favorite Hanna Barbera character was Snagglepuss, well, him or Smeadly.

In any case, cicadas are LOUD!

They also love the smell of jet fuel in the morning, and the evening, and at night. Bloody things will pester you to no end while handling JP4.

I go out of my way to avoid George Bush aka 190, and have never taken the Dallas tollway before. Hopefully, I will never have to.

Valid point Sam.... very true.

Hey, I've *seen* the Flintstones...

Um, we didn't watch tv when I was a kid. Mom didn't let us. My childhood was magical... but I missed out on cartoons.

Of course, my brothers seem to watch the tube 24-7, or be playing video games (I didn't have those either). And they sadly ignore our enormous collection of fiction...

Look out! Swarms of cicadas, on the way! It is the Summer of the Cicada!

I'll put up with cicadas, if we can just have summer. Speaking of which... we've got to plan the Northeast Moot! I'll probably be moving in early August so it should be somewhere in late May, June, or July... thoughts? We need to get Suzi in on it, though.

I am not sure you *can* see these cartoons anymore. I don't think my brother (age 24) even knows about half of the ones I listed, and he was a TV fiend.

I avoid those roads too! But, my ministry chapter president is forever taking me down the Dallas Tollway on my bike where I have to stop at those toll booths ON THE BIKE and dig out change! What a FREAKIN' ROYAL PAIN IN THE @$$

Well... it's sure a sore point around here. The second Narrows bridge that is under construction right now will be a toll bridge. They're adding a WHOLE second span there, and get this: We'll go from two lanes (no toll) either way, to... are you ready...??? are you sure... ???

We'll have a NEW TOTAL of TWO traffic lanes either way, plus a "buses only" lane. YES!!! From MERELY TWO lanes that are now free... to a NEW TOTAL of TWO lanes that will have a $3 toll on them.

WOOOHOOO!!! How can I sign up early for this s#!t? And it gets better... the TOLL goes up $1 a year for the first three years to $6. Goollllyyy.... this is just getting better by the minute.

I don't usually endorse the idea of blowing things up. I can think of an exception to that, though.

I take our turnpike three days a week. 50 cents each way, to one exit down; on the other hand, the traffic is always moving, no slow-n-go nonsense. They're increasing tolls by 40% come August. Glad I'll be out of here by now.

PA almost deserves what it gets for electing Fast Eddie Rendell governor, but the R's should have tried running someone who wasn't dweebier than a pocket protector. Sigh... at least we have a good chance of getting rid of our RINO senator this primary.

Well, tell the terrorists that the bridge is an affront to Allah. Then warn everyone to stay away...

So, does the old bridge stay so you can use that option? Or will you *have* to use the new bridge? That don't even make no sense. Ya'll need to get some of us redneck engineers up there. Even the aggies down here can do better than that!

*duckin' msdrby's punch* hehehe

Lemme tell ya though, you just ain't lived till you've had to stop a Harley at a toll booth in the pouring rain, stand up, hold the bike with your legs and try to fish quarters outta your (soaked) pocket that's covered with 2 layers of leather (soaked leather) at 1 AM. Frikkin' nuts!! Just slap nuts.
