Bad news from Mike...he needs our prayers......he has skin cancer...I don't know too much other than it's basal cell carcinoma and very treatable...he heads to the Combat Support Hosp tomorrow to see more docs...they may fly him out to Germany or Spain....he's very upset, he can't leave Anaconda because he has to much to do organizing their withdrawal to Kuwait, he's hoping an ENT can cut it out in Balad and doesn't have to leave...he's had it for about 7mos...the first doc he saw several months ago said it was a bug bite...like hell!

Oh Mystery--I don't know what to say! I'm so so sorry! Where is it on him? How big? You tell him he's got to take care of himself and get the treatment he needs like NOW!!!! Never mind, I'll tell him myself--Mike, go to wherever they can treat you the best--NOW! Can't they just send him back to the US?
And where is that first doc? I'm gonna have to throttle him for you . . .
Prayers for both of you! And hugs, too!

Had a basal cell carcinoma removed a couple of years back....It did start out as a wasp sting.....Right between the eyes....Just never healed/ or we didn't get the stinger out.....So a skin cancer may be caused by something foreign in the skin.....Have never had another....Knock on wood.
Make sure he gets it taken care of.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in Jesus' Name and ask that You pour healing into Mike. Please intervene in this situation so that Mike is able to continue helping his men. Please pour peace into Mike and his whole family. All of us praying agree together for Your sovereign will to be done and for victory through the Lord Jesus to be manifest in every way. All this we ask in the Name of Jesus. Amen

Sorry to hear about the basal cell mystery. You are right though, they are very treatable. Sun-caused. My f-i-l has had a few of them, just has to have them removed.
A bug bite, huh?

#27...Basal cell is usually easily treatable.
It's the most common type of skin cancer.
It usually only takes a couple minutes to burn it off or, I guess, in some cases, cut it out.
Basal cell usually means it hasn't gotten very far below the top layer of skin.
Living in Florida for almost 30 years, I've had a few basal cell myself, and they healed so nicely, you can't even see scars.
I hope this helps.

I'm the quiet one on this thread.
Your post has cut me to the core. I just read your post to my Hubby. He's not even a lurker. He just hears my constant ramblings about FreeRepublic.
He paused for a moment and said, Bless you both. My prayers are with Mike and you.

He is on my prayer list.
I don't think that they will let he go back into a high exposure to the sun situation for a couple of months after the procedure for healing purposes. So if his job entails being out in the sun in Kuwait he can sign off on that one for a couple of months at least.

I will double my prayers for your husband and for you. You also are under great stress and need all our support. Know that you are loved and we wait anxiously with you for Mike to come home. Blessings, etabeta

So very sorry to hear about Mike's skin cancer - scary when you aren't there with him. Basal cell is generally slow growing and easily treated in a doctor's office. Since Mike doesn't want to leave his troops, I hope it can be handled in Balad. Meanwhile, prayers abound.

Oh Nancy, what a miserable thing, and the timing! I will pray for all to go expeditiously. Thank the good Lord he got an accurate diagnosis. I have heard the same thing as you wrote, that this is very treatable.
God speed to him in the treatment and all his movements to get home, and may God lighten the load on his mind about what others will need to do in his absence.
