(Vanity) Logically speaking: Why is neo-paganism (Wicca, et. al) wrong?

But before going any further, let me define the word "pagan". The source being from the most un-PC book I have -- The Webster's Secondary-School Dictionary copyright 1912:
pa'gan , n. [L.paganus countryman, pagan, paganus rustic, pagan. pagus the country.]1. One who does not worship the true God; a heathen; one not a Christian, Mohammedan, or Jew; formerly, one not a Christian. 2. An irreligious person. -- 1. Of or pert. to pagans; heathen; idolatrous. 2. Irreligious; heathenish
I ask this question in all honesty.... with perhaps just a touch of naivete. It's not a "set-up" and it's in no way meant to be confrontational. But I would like to arm myself with logic when "discussing" this.
(For better or worst, quoting Scriptures is mighty small coin with these types, and, unless done with the greatest finesse, often smacks of argumentum ad hominem...which then opens a whole new can of worms.)
So if there are any autocrats at the breakfast table, I would sincerely like to hear your thoughts on this.
Thanks,
-YD

My reply would be two fold. First, to a believer, there is no salvation in rejecting Jesus. Second, it provides no framework for moral behavior

It is wrong for the reason stated in the dictionary, i.e., not worshiping the true God. The First Commandment of God clearly states that "You shall have no other God before Me". If you have no religion then all religions are equally false, and so is paganism, since it a form of pseudo-mystic religion.
Just between you and me, I think most pagans are liberals, too.

I'm about to leave for church but my first thought was, how could one possibly advance the arguement unless they rely on scripture? As a Christian my faith and beliefs are firmly based on sola scriptura.

Would a sleep-deprived "CEO of the Sofa" (*nods to PJ O'Rourke*) suffice?

Of course "Scripture is might small coin with" pagans, just as quoting Wiccan belief is mighty small coin to Christians, Muslims, Jews and other more accepted religions throughout the world. Yankee Dame, I really believe this is one of those "no-win" situations: You will never convince any side that any of the others have an abiding validity.

I really have to agree with you, NCPAC.
There is a saying: "All Catholics are Christian, but not all Christians are Catholic."
With its' twin: "All Wiccans are pagan, but not all pagans are Wiccan."
I have learned that there are numerous denominations (paths) among the pagan faiths, just as there have grown numerous denominations (paths) in Christianity, especially after the Lutheran Heresy.
I have met Wiccans in the military, who hold their faith equally true and deep, if not truer, than some Christians I've known. Those people are rare, I know. But they've achieved something that has brought them closer to something higher than themselves. Who am I, to cheapen their joy?

"Who am I, to cheapen their joy?" I couldn't have said it any more succinctly, Old Sarge.
Thank you for your service to this country.

Pagans are just hippies pretending to believe in something other than their own selfish pleasure and drugs. They only do it to oppose the true Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
