The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Well, watching Independence Day during the Halftime turned out to be a good judgement call...Heh, unless you really wanted the boys to have an Anatomy lesson!
Joseph's birthday is Wednesday and we're having his party on Saturday. He and his friends are gonna watch Independence Day with our new mondo sub-woofer. We watched it the other night; WHOA!!

Unfortunately, we have found a few too many things that we'd prefer our children not be sitting with us when they occured on TV. Although I know we won't be able to protect them forever from the ways of this world, our evening entertainment shouldn't be where they learn these lessons. It's getting tougher and tougher these days. Thankfully, Autumn's not all that interested in what's on TV, and we have a decent DVD library of pre-approved movies and shows that she is allowed to watch.
Aside from "Stanley" and "Jo-Jo's Circus" on Playhouse Disney, and "Animal Planet", she really doesn't watch much of anything on standard tv programming.

My kids used to have one of those puzzles. I don't think I ever saw it together.

Cool. I've got to take some pictures of a mechanical wall clock, weights, gears, pedulum etc., we just finished. BTW the whole thing is made from laminations of card stock.

That is the single greatest piece of field kit the Corps ever got us... and the only reason we got 'em back in 1995 was cuz the Army was goin' to toss a couple hundred thousand "brand-new-still-in-the-wrapper" bivvy bags cuz they had too much brown in the camo pattern... what a bunchuh maroons... we got 'em fer free...That must be why I was able to buy brand-new Army goretex rainwear, tops and bottoms, for $75. Must have been some of that too-much-brown camo pattern.
Great stuff, but I get lots of strange looks when I wear it at a rain-soaked dressage show. But I stay dry, and for about $200 less than comparable civilian goretex rainwear.

Thank you for your kind words, 2J. The house feels so empty today, I miss Samantha and am just trying to stay busy, 'cause when I sit, I weep.

Got this just now from Celeste. It's an email from her BIL Wesley, that the Hobbit Hole has a knife being sent to.
The email message below is from Andrew's brother Wesley who is serving in the Army in Afghanistan. You will recognize his frustration. His attitude has obviously been "adjusted" since his arrival in Afghanistan the first of January. We are asking for your prayers for Wesley and all of our troops stationed in many dangerous places in the world as the war on terrorism continues and for continued support for the men and women serving in the military. It's been a long time since I have sent out such a mass mailing, but I thought the least I could do was send out a soldier's message, straight from the battlefield. Thank you.
Celeste
Remember!
I just left a memorial service for eight men who were killed in action last week. Two of them were friends from my unit. The chapel and the grounds outside were packed as soldiers gathered to say goodbye to their fallen brothers. It was a touching service, and as "Taps" was played, I felt something blaze up inside me that has been smoldering for a long time. It's a deep, burning anger toward those left-wing politicians and their media partners who either never cared or have forgotten the reasons we are fighting this global war on terror. We didn't ask for it. It was brought home to us on 11 SEP 2001. I'm also angry with so many of the American public who have no idea and couldn't care less about the sacrifices American Service members make every day to insure their freedom and security. Please don't let these men and all the others die in vain and be forgotten. Remind everyone what we are doing and why. We aren't doing this because we want to. We're doing it because someone has to. Please take every opportunity to remind the general public of those who give up so much to serve. Not all lose their lives, but each and every one make sacrifices to defend people who don't seem to care or appreciate it. MAJ Wes ******

Celeste is my best friend here in Tulsa. She introduced me to the Chaplain. I have the package ready to send out to Wes from The Hobbit Hole. I'll get it out today.
