The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

It does indeed!
And on and on and on and on and on...

Hey there... sorry but I became couchbound and crashed shortly after the game. Now I'm up at 0-dark-early.
But yes, I'm south for the week while the jury thing is happening.

Did you mention the cookies to Karen Not yet but I will. I don't know how well home made cookies would stand up to two weeks travel time though.

As far as I can remember the Army has never made a "Dry" tent. We took ours right out of the crate and put them up. It looked like a planetarium inside there, with all the holes in the roof. hehehe... brings back some memories from my Coast Guard days. "We, the underappreciated, have done so much for so long with so little, that now we can easily do anything with nothing."
A favorite was one time I navigated our ship into Cabo San Lucas on a placemat. We couldn't get any charts of the harbor, but somebody came up with a placemat from a restaurant there and it had a background that was a chart of the harbor. I used it. Plotted fixes on it. Even though it had those cutesy pics all over it of Marlins and fishermen and beach chairs. Couldn't resist the tempation to loudly recommend to the Captain: "Plot shows us with a huge oversize beach ball immediately off the starboard bow. Recommend evasive manuever!"

Very good! We had a monstrous superbowl part. Just Steve and the jedis but I set it up just like we were having a huge party...cooler of sodo, OT's hotwings, lil'smokies in bbq sauce, chips, dip, brownies, olives! I stayed in the kitchen and just acted like a restaraunt...just kept food coming!
The guys pulled the chairs to right in front of the TV and I just served! It was a blast.

Corin - are you SURE you've never run afoul of a rogue Gypsy somewhere in your life, and the hex is just catching up to you now? I'm convinced that when I was a baby I was stolen by Gypsies from my vey vey vey wealthy family and given to a poor family.
That theory would hold up too if'n I didn't look EXACTLY like my Dad.

I imagine they they can take your brother off any thinning agents, if he was on any and his blood with thicken back up naturally. If he was even just taking an aspirin a day (or even just taking some for aches and pains recently) it can thin his blood down.
Prayers for him and your cousin...

Did I mention I even got sardines in mustard, from the company 2J likes? Those'll be a treat! How were they? I haven't had the mustard ones yet. I like it that the company is so proud to be American. Most of the canned fish companies are Asian, I believe...

So....how accurate are those placemat maps? Accurate enough, it would seem. We didn't run aground. Though, we did hedge our bets and brought a local fisherman on board to point out the shoals and channels. A little bit of local knowledge goes a long way.

What a cute horse!
I note the sign saying "do not touch"...I wonder how many people ignore it. When we first got our greyhound off the tracks, people used to drag their kids over to pet her with me bellowing "Don't! I don't know if she bites!" They'd bring their kids right into her face. I took to not walking her in the park because I didn't want to re-muzzle her...she'd worn a muzzle all her life.
6 years later, she bit Matthew clear across his face.
