The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

yer believin that? I could only hope. They say we got snow in the forecast through tomorrow night.

You know, snow in Texas is an interesting topic. It's actually in the forecast fairly often. But, it doesn't happen. We all know this rule. They say it's in the forecast... it never comes. Now, when we have really good snowstorms - it's never in the forecast. Always a surprise. 't's why I never get all worked up over the weather reports here.

Now, if they say we're gonna have a drought. You can take that to the bank.

Who? I know it isn't Mr. PQ. He is out at session right now. When he does several in one week, I have to beg for one. And I am usually unsuccessful. You know it is the the Chef that cooks all day and eats a TV dinner when he get home!

No apology needed. Nice meeting you. And please call me Jen.

That would be a true statement for Mrs. Stormhands! And for PQ! If she'd only listen. Me, I just let my natural elfiness shine through... prolly why I don't go out much! LOL :-)

Actually somebody called and asked if I wanted to go to dinner tomorrow night. It was just weird. So, I'm not.

They say it's in the forecast... it never comes.

Rose keeps telling me about the 13-inch snowfall they had in San Antonio when she lived there. Of course, that one wasn't actually predicted, it was a surprise.

I've tried to tell her how many times I've seen 13-inch snowfalls in my life (a lot) but she seems to think I should be impressed by that one.

You would be impressed if you'd live in San Antonio through your childhood!!! I've lived there two different times in my life and I've never seen even one snowflake there! I did in Austin - coupla times. But, I was there a lot more years.

I suppose... but then I wouldn't be impressed by 112 degree temperatures, as I am now.

When I lived in Houghton/Hancock, it was not uncommon to wake up to a 6-8 inch snowfall from a clear sky. The moisture would come in off of Lake Superior and just condense out of the air as snow, no storm required.

Now if I can just keep thenewboy from using the school books for a chew toy!

When Joseph was little, I found some soft foam filled plastic books. They were great to put in the crib cause when they started sitting up, they could look at them and chew on them! The best part was they were washable!! I would read to them from the book, so they would get used to hearing the sounds for the shapes they were seeing.

"Paperwork will ruin any military organization." MajGen Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller

That's because paperwork is a more easily-measurable product than other kinds of work. The people who produce paperwork are more easily ranked in a performance review. They tend to rise in rank faster, and promote more people like them.

Also, paperwork is the one item in the universe that seems to last forever. When it's not needed, it's lovingly stored away in vast warehouses like the closing scene in "Raiders of the Lost Ark". When the warehouse is filled, they build another one somewhere else.

I know this is true, because even the city of Detroit does it. It claims to have no real records prior to about 1930, but almost 150 years of records are stored in secret unmarked, unlocked warehouses taken over by the city after the original owners abandoned them. I know this from a friend, who was befriended by a cop, and taken to one of these warehouses, where police records from the 1920s Purple Gang were stored, despite the official statement from the city that the records were destroyed long ago.

If a hick town like Detroit can save all its paperwor, imagine what the federal government can do. And imagine who gets the good job review for handling paperwork.
