The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Our Spring might start in February!

Yep. If I was still at the old place the grass would be startin' to turn green in a few days.... here it will be an extra 2 or 3 weeks. *sigh*

Well, at least I don't have to cut it quite as soon.

I'm just shivering thinking about your weather!

I'm going out to have a ciggie in the sun! 77 degrees worth of hot, yummy sun!! *grin*

Our grass stays green all winter, just dormant.

Yeah! Me too! I may not be Latino but I am a hot-blooded Southern woman! I need heat! Heck, I'd be thinkin' of flying down to go out in the sun with ya now if it weren't so warm and cozy in my house - in my nice warm sweats, with this blanket wrapped around me while I drink my HOT tea!

Nuther one of them things I got done last night was find a phone cord long enough to reach the bed in my new room so I can freep from my laptop covered with 12 quilts!

Got a funeral to go to in the morning. One of the major "movers and shakers" in our church...very involved in the building program (our massive church is debt-free...our buildings are payed for in advance).

Sad. Has a little boy. Had a heartattack hunting Sat. morning.

Green grass is nice. One of the big differences that Myranda and I noticed when we moved up here is that everything turns brown in winter. At home our grass was like yours - unless it was without rain. It's nice to go home and see all the green when it's so brown and dead looking up here. Also, we have a lot of junipers back home -- so there's always green even if the grass dries out. I miss that.

One of the nice things I liked when I bought this house though is that it has some kind of juniper growing in the front yard. (I'm not familiar with this variety but I like it.) Junipers aren't common here but at least I have one green tree in my yard all the time. And I know you don't typically get into our gardening discussions but I also dug up a small rosemary that a friend had given Myranda from the old place. EVERYONE here told me rosemary would not make it through the winters here. I planted it on the south-east-most corner of the house and it has thrived! It is HUGH!!! So, I have that green out front also.

Yep! I definitely believe in having enough covers when there is nothing else to keep me warm! :-)

It's a real shame and has left me feeling very dismayed. He wasn't that much older than us, I guess...early 50s?

He was our Sunday School teacher for a time.

He came in our class the Sunday before this happened to speak about missions. This guy is sharp as a tack, a real businessman, you know? (He has a bunch of land with a gorgeous house and a property caretaker that lives in his own house at the gate.) Nicest guy you'd ever want to meet, though...like most Okies. Just real down to earth.

Anyway, he came into our class and like forgot everything he came in to talk to us about. Very odd. I remembered thinking then that he looked tired. Then this happened just a few days later.

Wow! That is very sad 2J. Especially for his family but also for those of you who knew him AND your church and community.

But, you KNOW who he's with NOW!!!

I hope this doesn't sound really crass to say right now, but last Saturday when I knocked myself in the head and everyone was so worried about me... and I called Tammie to come over here and hang out for a few hours Saturday night - just in case I needed it. Well, she checked out my head and was concerned cause there was no lump where I'd smacked it - but, it was definitely whacked hard. When I said I knew it that "could" be bad but really didn't want to go to the hospital she said, "I know what you're thinkin', it's either I'll wake up at home to my regular life tomorrow morning OR - I'll wake up with Jesus. What's the problem there?"

Morning Ecurbh.

I got an image in my email that would be fun to post here. Do you know of any easy way to do such a thing?

Morning, All.

LOL It's a good way to look at things and yes, I anticipate tomorrow will be full of thanksgiving. He died on Sat. morning and his wife and son were in church on Sunday morning. I think I would be the same way...I would want to be with my church family.

The last service I went to was when my friend's baby died...I told you about that...the EMT made an error and accidentally killed her 22 month old?

That was one of the most devastating things I've ever lived through...I cried for months every time I thought of it. Even now, years later...my throat gets tight.

I anticipate this will not be so distressing...this man led an excellent life, gave so much to his community and to his Lord. Although I grieve for his family, I'm sure the service will be a celebration.

Sounds a bit like my Mom's funeral. She was active, though in somewhat quiet ways, throughout our parish, and was well loved, and not just by our family. There were tears at her funeral, but a lot of joy, too.

I wore my brightest dress, one that she had loved and helped me pick out. I didn't think she would want to see us in black.

It was used somewhere in that ancient satire of LOTR, Harvard Lampoon's Bored of the Rings. One of the few things I remember from it, having read it in 1971 or so.

Yep. After Grama's death I ran right to my church family in Waco. I felt like I had just fallen into a warm soft embrace because of those people. And it helped because they could at least share the joy of her home-going amidst tears with me.

I really miss my church family in Waco. I haven't found that kind of church home here. This church that I've attended here wasn't there for me at all during this. I think I mentioned some of the things that were said to me there last summer after that all happened when Myranda went off and wasn't talking etc. It oughtta not have been that way.

OK, I sent it to you.
If you find it worthy of posting, would you put it up? I thought g'nad, prof engineer, .300winmag, etc. and some of the shooters would enjoy it. HairOfTheDog too, come to think of it.
