The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I used to watch that show! Loved it. Though, I don't remember seeing it anywhere since the 70's.

Whew. At least now we know you'll be dressed! I thought there was *another* reason you had to get married!

BTW Jen, I didn't see this before. A little honey goes a long way with most people, school employees included. My mom taught in public schools, and so does most of ecurbh's family. I wasn't dealing with school teachers - all the school teachers I've known have been very nice people, though I preferred learning from my mom. I was talking about the admin people. They... dislike homeschoolers. Mostly they try to pretend we don't exist. I'm not talking generalities here, this is specific - like, they didn't tell us when the SATs were being held, so I almost didn't take them. Or they try to demand things they have no right to demand.
And I used honey! Four weeks ago, when I first asked them for this two-paragraph letter, I was so sweet and nice you wouldn't believe it. Four weeks later, as graduation is creeping up and they haven't bothered to send it, not so nice.
I've got no problem with school people in general, it's just these specific ones I dislike.

Well...managed to get the kitty to the vet and back. Got her shots updated and all that jazz.
Bad news, though. The vet doesn't think it's just a fatty cyst. Still doesn't mean it's malignant or anything, and he said it didn't feel all that connected to underlying tissue...but he was still concerned and wants to remove it ASAP.
I guess I'm going to go that one more step. If they then find that it's cancerous, I'm going to have a difficult decision ahead of me. So...prayers and good wishes are welcome!
She's going in for surgery on the 23rd. They may be able to clean her teeth at the same time, but it will depend on how involved the other surgery ends up being, from what I understand.

I think it's registrar's office folks. Though there are a few nice ones...it's still an interesting office to visit. And I'm not even dealing with them as a student! May in the future, though, since I get free tuition. Hopefully they're nice. After all...I do have powah to bring them dowwwwwn. Heh.

Though actually, now I think about it, it's mostly just one person. Sigh.

Hope kitty's ok... keep us posted.
You ought to take a couple classes, just for the experience - yeah, it's no fun not having spare time but it gives you such an appreciation of "real" people like here at FR. Plus for me, I love learning, so...
I just try not to deal with the registrar's office!

If I do take any, they'll probably be music or literature related. But it'd also be strange, since I know the faculty members as more or less equals...always before when I've taken classes, I didn't have that sort of relationship with the teacher. If that makes sense?
I'd like to take some of my boss' classes, for one. But that'd be odd in some ways.

Prayers for the kitty! Hopefully she doesn't mind getting her teeth cleaned as much as mine did! He didn't like the vet at all; and then after I took him there I had a hard time with him for a few days because they gave me some medicine I had to feed him with a spoon, which he did not want to eat. I was amazed how difficult my normally-docile 10-pound kitty could be when he wanted to. I didn't have enough hands to hold him still, force him to hold his mouth open, and spoonfeed him medicine at the same time, so I literally had to sit on him in a wrestling hold between my legs to get him to stay still enough to take his medicine! Man, that was a chore!

Adult students have a different relationship with the professors anyway. They respect you a little more, and know you'll do your work and be in class. I've enjoyed being known as a "working" student the last few years.
I think you should do the boss's classes! Trust me, nobody should care.

Putting eye medicine in a cat's eye is hard enough. I'm lucky in that I've never had to give any of them oral medication...but sounds like that may change when Cleo comes home. I had a hard enough time getting her in the carrier!
Just incredible.
Sometimes wrapping them in a towel and then kneeling over them works. But yeah...cats aren't exactly easy to give pills or medication to.
Fiona, on the other hand...stick a TINY bit of food with the pill or pour the medicine over food, and that'd be gooooone. If she didn't just eat it by itself.
She doesn't like Benedryl, though. And that's the main one I have to give her. She had an allergic reaction to a shot as a puppy (her face swelled up and she came close to not being able to breathe), so now she has to have Benedryl before any shots. Getting her to swallow it requires some trickery. Gotta go through that on the 18th.

OK Jen! - I worried a little when you said you were yelling at them over something that the college wanted!
I hope it gets sent in time. I am sure you are right, there is kindof an 'Us' versus 'Them' thing going on that adds problems to what could have been simple.
To: RosieCotton
but he was still concerned and wants to remove it ASAP. Well, rats! :~\ I hope that unplanned expense doesn't cause ~big~ problems for you! - Have you sealed the fate on the guitar yet? ;~D
Rosie, I hope it all goes OK. Keep us posted.
