The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Yikes! Sorry to hear you used up your time! Looking forward to talking some more when you're able to get back on.

I can't imagine how I'd react if someone did that to my child...yes, accidents happen...but I think I would have had a very hard time with forgiveness. She sounds like an incredible woman. I'm glad she was able to have another baby! Not that one child could ever replace the other, but...

A sad case indeed 2J. I also had a friend with a baby tragedy (strangled himself by snagging a hooded sweatshirt on his crib) they are hard ones to take. Our family almost had that type of tragedy, but we were spared by the grace of God. When I was 4 my 2-year-old brother and I were riding in the back seat of the car eating peanut-butter sandwiches, when I noticed him turning blue. I was too young to realize what it meant, but I found it odd, so I pointed it out to my parents, who of course instantly realized he was choking on his sandwich. At the time we were on the freeway, so my Dad pulled over to give my brother CPR. By a stroke of grace the sherriff happened to be driving by, so he we ended up getting a high-speed police escort to the hospital. My brother went into a coma and was biologically dead for a few minutes, but he came out of it and recovered completely. My Mom never let us eat while we were driving again.

Close call indeed.
See ya later everyone, I am done with all the work I can do for now, and I am gonna get some outside chores done.

Yes, she does have the other little girl now...cute as can be. However, she told me today that this little girl she has now is an extra blessing because apparently, something is genetically messed up with her and her hubby...she miscarried not too long ago and the baby was also profoundly deformed...would not have lived.
They aren't going to try again, she said.

Hm...we had sort of the same thing happen, though it wasn't as serious, and it was my fault. I was baaad. Didn't mean to be, though! My brother and I were riding in the back seat and Mom had given me a couple of peanut butter balls to eat - they've got peanut butter, milk power and honey...good, by the way - and I decided to share them with my brother. He was very little at the time, though, only a couple of months old, and definitely not capable of eating them. Luckily Mom noticed before he choked, but she said he was starting to turn blue.
I HOPE I was just trying to be generous, but I don't really remember. ;-)
Glad to hear your brother was OK, though! Holy cow...that's pretty scary!

Joshua choked on a doughnut once while I was driving...I drove clear off into a field on the side of the road and jumped into the back to help him. 'Course by then he had got over it and was sinking in it for another bite.

How's the little girl they have now?--she medically "normal" (for lack of a better term)?
To: RosieCotton; 2Jedismom
I wonder how often that happens with little kids? Scary.
To: Fedora
Yes, she's normal.

BTW, Rosie, those peanut butter balls do sound good :) I never heard of those before. Does remind me of when I used to help my Mom make peanut-butter cookies, though :)
To: Fedora
Oh yes! Peanut butter cookies were one of the first things we got to help make! Used to do them with a criss-cross on the top - with a fork. We got to do that part.
I love peanut butter cookies...preferably just a bit past "done". Mmmm...

But we used to have those peanut butter balls pretty often when I was really little, I think because they're no bake and at that time she didn't have bigger kids around to bake or help with the little guys. They're just peanut butter with a little honey for sweetening, enough powdered milk to make them stuff enough to roll into balls, and then she usually rolled them in coconut or wheat germ. Yum!

You mean when the bottom is just slightly charred? :)
One of the other first things we helped make was Shrinky Dinks--did you ever do those?

You mean when the bottom is just slightly charred? :) Exactly! Or at least dark. Most people like 'em just past raw, seems like.

Yep, certainly did! Both the kind that came with an image pre-stamped that you'd just color and the blank sort. Those are making a return, actually, I suppose because people my age have kids old enough to do them now. My little sister got a pack awhile ago...they haven't changed much.
Heh...I remember doing Smurf ones. Guess that's a bit dating.

What a terrible sad story. but I'm hooked now and need more info. What happened to her, the EMS guy part? What a beautiful little girl. I read what her mom wrote about her, and glad to hear she has had another baby now.
To: HairOfTheDog
He was just a 5 min cameo part in SP3.

I didn't know Shrinky Dinks were making a comeback, but I did notice they were still selling them, which surprised me. Don't know why those were so fun, but they were! I had forgotten about them until recently when I came across some old comic-book ads for them. They used to make superhero ones as well as Star Wars ones besides the Smurf ones.
BTW we once had an art teacher with a good sense of humor who was really short, and was always going around threatening (jokingly) to whack us with his art ruler, and one time when he threatened my friend my friend called him "Papa Smurf", so we called him that for the rest of the year :)

Just got back. The doctor said it will only be day surgery, but that Elf-boy has to be asleep for the procedure. His scheduler is going to call me to set the date. Tentatively speaking, though the doctor thinks it will be late March-early April.
