Well folks, it's that time of year again. Tom Ridge and the people at DHS have received the analysis of the chatter gathered by NRO, DIA, and other assorted alphabet agencies and it appears that the Rags have decided to do the whole Grinch thing.
Naturally, Americans can be an awfully accomodating bunch, in that 72 virgins kind of way, so I was wondering that given that the threat board just went to orange, what are the Best Practices for carry, ammunition, and accessories during this period. In other words, are you stuck with your 9mm when you're going about your Christmas shopping, or should one carry the 12 guage in the gun rack.
I'm serious, folks. I'm not being facetious. It only sounds that way. I have been expecting terrorists to make guerilla style attacks and acts of sabotage in the U.S. for two years now as an expression of Islamic "manhood". Unfortunately for them, there's something called the Second Amendment. So this thread is for practical suggestions for carry and concealment, choice of firearms and ammunition in a low intensity warfare environment, and of course, best practices for small unit tactics in case you run into the Madrass Jihad for Allah (as opposed to, say, the Campus Crusade for Christ).
Be Seeing You,
Chris
I see your point. 22's have their place, IMO. The good Dr's experience proves this; he might have left that little revolver where it was as an afterthought just because it was cheap. (I can't help but wonder if "someone" suggested it to him...) I gave my elderly dad my Taurus .22wmr revolver, and I'm toying with the idea of one of the little .22wmr revolvers from NAA, myself. "Have a gun..."
I was responding to this and not your advantage, I understand that. But the "if it ain't a Glock you can't depend on it" just ain't true in all weapons. I'm glad you like your Glock, but their are others out there just a good.

Happy hunting! =) (*sarcasm*)
My personal advice - and it is personal - is to own a variety of the little darlings and carefully evaluate the likely scenarios you will be facing before leaving home. Decide on the correct combination of punch and concealability. Then carry the next bigger one.
The real trick is to practice with them all.
Today I practiced with one of my carry pieces, a Kahr 9mm, and one of my warguns, (my baby, oh, yeah,) a .45ACP Kimber. Between these two guns the breaking point is at just about 20 meters - that's as far as a 2 1/2 inch barrel will give me A-zone hits reliably 100% of the time. Beyond that Mister Kimber is just warming up. The difference is another 2 1/2 inches of barrel and a lot of weight. But if you care enough to send the very best...
I am particularly fond of a Glock in .40 S&W, which bridges the gap nicely. I'd be perfectly happy with it in any tactical situation I'm likely to face between home and work. But if I had the time and the carry ability I'd still opt for the .45. Big and slow and strong and it doesn't overpenetrate. Your mileage may vary.
At home it's a 12 gauge Mossberg - the pistols are only if I can't walk around with a long gun. They'd freak at work - weenies. But around home it's the boss for any range I'm likely to need - 100 meters max with my personal load of alternating rounds of #4 buckshot and rifled slug. Anything more serious than that is a rifle, and that's another conversation.
Rifles...mmmmmmm....
About 15 years ago, a friend of mine had a chronograph and we decided to test one of those with .22 and .22mag cylinders. I think it had a one inch barrel.
Of the 3 the short produced the highest velocity by a small margin and they were all three within a couple of foot pounds of the same energy.
Of course the mag might have killed someone by just the awesome blast.
You had to throw Vettechick in there. Now I'm labored with the burden of love. :^)
Nice web page that she has there, BTW. I appreciate anybody that likes the 27 (and most people that don't)
Better get one now, while you still can. If gun sales are suspended on a nationwide level, it will be a Homeland Security "emergency" that does it.
I misunderstood the "won't fly with me" part and agree with all that you have posted. Glocks are not for everybody, but I am tired of people saying that they are for nobody.
Nothing serious - I stagger hollow points with flatpoints (the .40 equivalent of hardball). I haven't a clue if it is the best way to approach things, but it really isn't a bad thing.
Yup. Worked for me in Honduras. Works for home defense, too. Although, very few home invaders can hear the action of a pump shotgun without being reduced to pi$$ covered jello.
Been carrying a G30 for three years now. It's my preferred handgun of choice when TSHTF. And that, from a collection that includes Para-Ordnance and Wilson Combat 1911s and a Sig P245.
Glock -- when it absolutely, positively has to fire the first time, every time.
