2003: China Almost Went to War Over Taiwan

When Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visited the White House last month, President Bush issued a stinging rebuke to Taiwan.

"We oppose any unilateral decision by either China or Taiwan to change the status quo," President Bush said.

"And the comments and actions made by the leader of Taiwan indicate that he may be willing to make decisions unilaterally to change the status quo, which we oppose."

Until that public comment by the president, the administration had been hawkishly pro-Taiwan.

What happened?

NewsMax has learned that earlier in 2003, Chinese officials at the highest levels were telling current and former U.S. diplomats that a war over Taiwan was likely in just a matter of months.

Chinese officials were apparently furious with Donald Rumsfeld and the Pentagon. The Chinese believe that Rumsfeld and the Pentagon have been telling the Taiwanese and their president, Chen Shui-bian, to make no deal with China, prepare for the worst, and move toward independence -- with the full backing of the U.S.

Chinese officials said that under such circumstances they would have no alternative but to take military action against Taiwan.

The White House moved to rein in the Pentagon. Since then, China has moved closer to the U.S. and has helped the U.S. by intervening in the North Korea crisis.

Also, the Chinese Central Bank has been bailing out the U.S. dollar, buying up U.S. securities at low rates of return that the Europeans long ago deserted.

New Intel Source on Al Qaeda Led to Orange Alert

The source provided strategic and tactical details of how the terror network wanted to carry out terror attacks on American political and economic targets.

For those of you who are interested in prophecy, a man from Romania had dreams and visions regarding attacks on America. He saw Russia and other countries involved in hitting nuclear warehouses in America. And he saw cities in California, Florida and New York as well as Las Vegas burning. The guy's name was Dumitru Duduman.

I do not believe Christians should pay any attention to Nostradamus because he got his visions through the use of sorcery.
Duduman's prophecies can be read on the web site www.handofhelp.com

QM2 Cruises Into Security Scrutiny

MIAMI — Longer than the Eiffel Tower is tall and weighing in at about 150,000 tons, the Queen Mary 2 (search) is the biggest cruise ship ever built, making its maiden voyage a massive security concern.

The trans-Atlantic trip, which began Monday in England and ends Jan. 24 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., is being made under tight security. When U.S. forces captured Al Qaeda's so-called "chief of naval operations," he was carrying a 180 page-document listing targets of opportunity -- supposedly including large Western cruise ships.

By AZIZ NURITOV
Associated Press Writer

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (AP) -- An airliner was making its second attempt to land in heavy fog when it crashed just short of the runway, killing all 37 people on board - including the top U.N. official in this Central Asian country - officials said Wednesday.

Four foreigners were among the passengers on the Uzbekistan Airways flight that crashed Tuesday evening, Prosecutor General Rashid Kadyrov said. They were Richard Conroy, a British-Australian citizen who headed the U.N. mission to Uzbekistan; Richard Penner, a Canadian and director in Afghanistan of the U.S.-based World Concern humanitarian organization; and two Afghan businessmen.

Brazil Detains U.S. Jet Crew Over Gesture

SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) - The pilot of an American Airlines jet was detained Wednesday after making an obscene gesture when being photographed at the airport as part of a newly imposed entry requirement for U.S. citizens, federal police said. Eleven crewmembers from the airplane arriving from Miami were also detained, police said. Brazil imposed requirements that Americans be fingerprinted and photographed at entry points in response the similar rules in the United States for citizens of Brazil and other countries whose citizens need visas to enter.

This is one heck of a thread. For a while I thought Al Qaeda was issuing this threat on a daily basis, and you were duly notifying the rest of us.

Cheers.
