Al Qaeda again threatens New York, Washington and Los Angeles - Daily Terror Threat

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?

The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.

Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.

DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.

Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

I apologize that I haven't written any new Mossism columns lately, but I had to travel to North Carolina for my girlfriend's grandfathers funeral. Traveling 14 hours on the roads of West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina did lead to some material though. For one, did you know there was a street in West Virginia named after Senator Robert Byrd? I didn't get off at the exit to see if Robert Byrd Parkway led to Grand Wizard Lane. How would you like to be an African-American and have to drive on a street named after a former member of the Klu Klux Klan? I did find it ironic that I was listening to the CD Amerikkka's Most Wanted by Ice Cube when I passed the exit. I am aware the CD is over ten years old, but when you are in the car for 28 hours, you really have a chance to go through your collection.

I pray that we never experience anything similar to what has been posted in this thread. However, I have a "gut feeling" that things are only going to get worse. Just look throughout history. Despite all of this, I continue to pray that we will be victorious over the terrorists before they have another chance to seriously harm our country and others around the world.

I live in West Virginia, about two hours' time from that interchange named after Byrd. Not all of us are proud of it, but half of West Virginia's buildings and roads seem to be named for him. The road the guy references is at Interstate 77 south at Beckley West Virginia. Not to spread fear, but there are two tunnels just south of there leading into Virginia which have been the subject of debate whether or not extra hazmat precautions are needed...

WORLDWIDE CAUTION


January 9, 2004


This supersedes the Worldwide Caution dated December 21, 2003. It is being issued to remind U.S. citizens of the continuing threat that they may be targets of terrorist attacks even though the homeland security threat level has returned to Yellow (Elevated) from Orange (High). This Worldwide Caution expires on July 9, 2004.


The U.S. Government remains deeply concerned about the security of U.S. citizens overseas. U.S. citizens are cautioned to maintain a high level of vigilance, to remain alert and to take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness. We are seeing increasing indications that Al-Qaida is preparing to strike U.S. interests abroad.


Al-Qaida and its associated organizations have struck in the Middle East in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and in Europe in Istanbul, Turkey. We therefore assess that other geographic locations could be venues for the next round of attacks. We expect Al-Qaida will strive for new attacks designed to be more devastating than the September 11 attack, possibly involving nonconventional weapons such as chemical or biological agents. We also cannot rule out that Al-Qaida will attempt a second catastrophic attack within the U.S.


Terrorist actions may include, but are not limited to, suicide operations, hijackings, bombings or kidnappings. These may also involve commercial aircraft and maritime interests, and threats to include conventional weapons, such as explosive devices. Terrorists do not distinguish between official and civilian targets. These may include facilities where U.S. citizens and other foreigners congregate or visit, including residential areas, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, schools, hotels, outdoor recreation events or resorts and beaches. U.S. citizens should remain in a heightened state of personal security awareness when attendance at such locations is unavoidable.


U.S. Government facilities worldwide remain at a heightened state of alert. These facilities may temporarily close or suspend public services from time to time to assess their security posture. In those instances, U.S. embassies and consulates will make every effort to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens. Americans abroad are urged to monitor the local news and maintain contact with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate .


As the Department continues to develop information on any potential security threats to U.S. citizens overseas, it shares credible threat information through its consular information program documents, available on the Internet at http://travel.state.gov. In addition to information on the Internet, travelers may obtain up-to-date information on security conditions by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the U.S. or outside the U.S. and Canada on a regular toll line at 1-317-472-2 328.
