[history]
Monday, November 3, 2003
A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.
The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?
The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.
Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.
DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.
Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

train police. Never heard of them before. They're special agents of the railroad, we always called them cinder-dicks, dicks as in detectives, not attitude.
Went out in the middle of nowhere once after a tornado to get some photos of an overturned train for a paper, a train which had been laying there so long they had time to get all the grain and coal and other goods cleared away. We weren't there but a minute and a half when a cinder-dick showed up with his holster and ID plainly visible to ask us what we were up to and to usher us off the property. Nice guy but he was a prudent individual in spite of our rather harmless appearance. He treated us like we could explode any second.

Oh, there was more :
OCTOBER 1998 : (COLUMBIA: EGYPTIAN AL-GAMAL AL-ISLAMIYA TERRORIST MOHAMED ENID ABDEL AAL, ENTERS COLUMBIA FOR TALKS WITH FARC; AAL HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN INVOLVED WITH LUXOR MASSACRE) An Egyptian terrorist belonging to al-Gamal al-Islamiya entered Colombia illegally in 1998 to hold talks with FARC and was arrested and turned over to U.S. authorities. He was wanted in connection with the 1997 massacre of 80 Western tourists near Cairo.
Interpol arrested the Egyptian extremist Mohamed Enid Abdel Aal, in Bogota, Colombia. Abdel Aal, a leader of one of the most dangerous of the Islamist terrorist organizations, told authorities under questioning that "he planned to stay in Colombia for a few days and then head to Venezuela over land. (El Nuevo Herald, Sept. 16, 2001)
There is additional information that indicates that the Colombian territory under FARC control has become a haven for Terror International. Argentine journalist Julio Cirino, an expert on international terrorism, has written about the existence of a logistical support base "in a small city near the Colombian border with Venezuela, where "Middle Eastern types receive fake Colombian passports and move on to other unspecified destinations.

I think we might see some terrorist funding by some of the drug cartels. You just gotta know our crackdown on terrorist has put a big dent in the drug trade. Also, after doing some surfing last night , it seems there are some other groups being sympathetic to islam terrorist. Not because they embrace islam but because they want to see America destroyed. Then we got the local kooks to worry about making cyanide bombs. This nation is sitting on a kinder box and with the right fuel and proper heat could explode into total anarchy.

Still no sign of the original alleged article. I figured out how to search Il Giornale, nothing.Well, THAT is encouraging..
It is puzzling why there isn't more digging into this by US media. You think that something like an (alleged) threat to nuke NYC would get the attention of one or two people over here.

Donna - all good thoughts..I wonder, though - if we knew what GWB knows, would ANY of us really sleep like a baby?
It's gotta be enormously difficult to have the full insight into what's "really" going on - the full scope of the threat. AND, having responsibility for the welfare of nearly 300 million Americans.
I would not want Dubya's job!

Tom - we're looking for the article that was in the Italian Paper where AQ threatened to Nuke NYC before 2/2. (Reported on Debka, oddly no media coverage here in the US).

Thanks WCG!
"He had told her that he loved flying and probably would die flying" {{{shudder}}}
Here's an update from Canada. Notice there's NO mention of an American wife. Plus, Hamid is noted as having dual Egyptian-Canadian citizenship. Again, NO mention of having lived in the U.S., much less having U.S. citizenship!?!
It just gets more bizarre.

http://www.thedesertsun.com/news/stories2004/local/20040109025012.shtml Witney said she last saw her husband in September while both were in London on vacation visiting her family.
Witney returned to Cathedral City and her husband went to Egypt to visit his family for three weeks.
While Abdelhamid was in Egypt, a family member who was a partner in Flash Airlines became "quite ill," Witney said.
Abdelhamid remained in Egypt and took over responsibilities at the airlines, Witney said. The plan was for Abdelhamid to fill in temporarily.
The last time Witney spoke to her husband was on New Years Eve.
At that time he told Witney that he was set to complete flight training on Jan. 4.
(Worth repeating. He was set to complete flight training on Jan 4th!! The plane crashed on the 3rd.)

For me, I like to entertain all possibilities and I have a need to know; I am that way about everything. I have an unsatiable curiosity and a mind that will not turn off, especially in matters of politics and religion and now, national security. But things like national security never worry me because it is the knowledge and awareness that I seek that gives me what I crave. I think if I had the knowledge and awareness of GWB, I would sleep like an absolute baby! But none of my family members are like me in this way. They do not care to know about this in any depth. On the other hand, I want to know what may happen before it happens even if it never happens.

I noticed how out of the last week's of posts on that web site only three persons had posted and most were one person ranting. A good exercise of the 1st Amendment, no problem there, and it's good that our enemies are of that sort because they telegraph any potential threat considerably in advance to any possible action.
Obviously they aren't significant. If one simply quantifies and qualifies their posted threats, the logistics of their fulfilled intent would be greater than a total war by the former Soviet Union and Red China combined within the continental US. If they couldn't do it, I don't greatly fear some jack**s with a keyboard spewing their rant.
It might also be more significant to remember how sites like that might be tracked over the web worldwide. They aren't as readily apparant elsewhere as they are on our machines simply by the search engine mechanics. Likewise, we probably aren't viewing an equivalent cross-section of Arabic/Muslim perspective on the threat when we run our web based searches here.
I spoke with an former Iranian friend recently who commented that when he last visited Iran, he was shocked by how within a single family the political perspectives ranged the gamut of stances. Some conservative, some extreme radical socialist, some religious, some areligious. His impression was that the threat was from a very small percentage and those sympathetic with the cause, though not involved, combined with the enemy would be far less than 5% of the population and possibly less than 1-2%. And the actual involved enemies, not tooth to tail, but entire active parties to be numerable in less than 100,000, probably closer to 30-50,000. Of those, if the tooth to tail ration was 1:10 or greater, then the threat would be greatly diminished to simply fire team to squad sized cells with whatever they could muster to create hate and misery.
The US loses that many people every year in car accident fatalities.
Doesn't hurt to remain alert, since they band together and are obvious if they act in the US.
The greater threat IMHO, are the numbers of domestic enemies to the constitution who are socialists who simply blend into the society and continually challenge constitutional rights for all Americans.
