If we can't laugh at it all, it will truly be all over for us.

Cheers, friend.

I have to tell y'all a good story about a great little Guilder-to-be!

My little great-niece, Anna, is spending the night with me. She's 19 months old and cute as a button.

Well, it was time for bed, so we went back in the guest bedroom where I was going to read to her. She didn't want to get in the bed and started opening the drawers in the bedside tables. I kept telling her there wasn't anything in any of those drawers, but she insisted on opening every one.

And then she pulled out a JEWELRY CASE! I wondered what it might be...until she pulled out a huge Rolex Oyster watch! I probably haven't opened those drawers in the entire 15 years I've had the tables. I have no idea how the watch got there.

So this little one has a nose for fine jewelry. She'll make a worthy addition to the Guild one day.
________________________________________________________

Postscript: I've called everyone I can think of who's stayed in that room and might have a rolex. No hits. But the wierd thing is...who would come visit and bring their watch in a jewelry case? It's not a watch case, more like a necklace box. This is a real mystery. You can bet I'll be at the appraiser early Monday morning.

Elmer Fudd is loose in the woods, keep your heads down

He reminds me of Daryl on the old Newhart show.

I think the 7.2% growth rate is fantastic! Unfortunately, the media and the left are not going to give President Bush any credit at all. They just pick at other things.

Baked beans and tomatoes are a staple for English breakfast, among other things.

I've just been on the thread about the Green River Killer. A photo is posted and it's left me a bit rattled. He looks like a guy who asked for my assistance in a hospital parking lot in Portland, Oregon a few years ago. As I walked past he said he had locked himself out of his vehicle and asked if I could reach in through the partially open passenger window and pop the lock. I never forgot it. He was driving a red pickup truck and acted irked when I refused to stop.

Good Gracious! What a story. Why was he unable to reach inside and unlock his own door? And, of course, the obvious,,,, how could you possibly know it was HIS truck?

Good Work, Mae.

Good Morning to the Guilders. 43 degrees here this morning, we had rain last night and more predicted for the next couple of days.

None of the breakfasts at our B&B in London looked quite that appetizing, ds! The sausages were about 4 or 5 inches long, fat, and had an unusual flavor that didn't resemble our version at all, and the "bacon" was a fatty slab. Just for fun, I eschewed the various pork products and fried eggs one day, and had Weetabix cereal. Oh my gosh - it was like pressed sawdust in the shape of an Ivory soap bar! That's what I love about traveling - experiencing new flavors!

Oops, lod, meant to direct the English breakfast comment to you. Mae, you realize the subterfuge used by the guy you encountered in Portland was very similar to that of Ted Bundy? No doubt, other criminals have adopted his very successful technique. I'm glad you didn't fall for it.

I went over to the Green River Killer thread to see what he looks like, a creepy character indeed.

You should call the Portland police and let them know about what happened in the hospital parking lot. It might help them in some way, maybe that MO, asking for assistance with the lock or the red pickup truck might help nail him for other murders.

Liz Smith reports:

REMEMBER THOSE RUMORS that Bill Clinton will run for mayor of New York? Well, Tina Brown really revived those in her weekly column by writing the following: "At a party in northern Westchester last summer, Clinton told a guest he would love to run for mayor - and might consider doing so at some point in the future. Now, though, he 'couldn't do that to Hillary.'"

So what does this mean? Bill is biding his time? That once Hillary is in the White House, then he can go for Gracie Mansion? This is a scenario to strike terror into the heart of every conservative and Republican. But, for once, poor old New Yorkers might "cash in" if they had a Clinton in Washington and another one standing up for New York City.

.... LAURA BUSH was a knockout at the Police Athletic League luncheon at the Pierre Thursday. I had a good opportunity to study her as I emceed this event, just as I have done for the past 15 years. I love PAL and cherish all its good works for New York's children. Mrs. Bush is sensibility itself in person. She is down-to-earth, friendly and positive. [Nice to hear from an oldtime Dem like Liz] She seems to enjoy these arranged occasions and talks openly like any good neighbor with all who approach her. Everyone at the lunch wanted to come talk with her, and many did. She gave us a marvelous speech about the hopes of children. And she stayed from beginning to end and seemed to enjoy her lunch. link

I've never been to England, nor have I ever read or heard much good about their chow...having once ruled the world, it's strange that they failed to return home any of the tasty, zesty foodstuffs that exist everywhere except Great Britain.

Was it Ann Rule who wrote a tremendous Ted Bundy book several years ago?

I think the 7.2% growth rate is fantastic! Unfortunately, the media and the left are not going to give President Bush any credit at all.

No they won't however it is rattling them so that they've been forced to tell the truth about that '92 recession. Here in this story I found this little nugget:

Many Democrats say they still consider the economy an issue that will benefit them next year. President George Bush lost in 1992 even though employment began growing eight months before Election Day, they point out.

This is a first, dims admitting that it wasn't clintoon that pulled us out of recession! Dims now have to tell the truth in order to lie about how even if the economy continues to grow it still won't help President Bush's re-election.

I hope the RNC is collecting these goodies.

Yes, that was Ann Rule. Every true crime book by her is a good read.

Hey, it looks like Ann Rule is going to write about the Green River killer:

What's in the Works for Next Year? Heart Full of Lies, and Without Pity are Ann's 21st and 22nd books. She is already writing her 23rd book, one she has waited for for 22 years: The Green River Killer book--which has a working title of Green River Turned Red. Gary Leon Ridgway, 54, was arrested in November, 2001, and remains the prime suspect in the deaths of over fifty young women in the Northwest in the mid-eighties. He may well be the most prolific serial killer ever to prowl in America. In late summer, 2003, Green River Task Force members began spending weekends in a number of isolated sites around Seattle's suburbs, digging and sifting. So far, they have found five sets of remains, three of them known Green River victims who have been missing for over 20 years. The case is exploding with revelations. Ann has finally emptied her linen closet of boxes and boxes of research material she has saved on these cases.

She has had a contract to write about these long-unsolved murders for as long as she can remember, writing other books--more than she might have imagined--as King County Sheriff Dave Reichert and the Green River Task Force refused to give up what often seemed to be an ultimately frustrating investigation. As it turned out, Ridgway lived less than a mile from Ann's house. She will bring amazing insider knowledge to this book, as well as the view of serial murder in the Northwest that no one else knows as well as Ann does.

Ann welcomes correspondence from anyone who may know something about the Green River cases, and promises to keep your identity secret, either on 206-248-0811 or Ann Rule's email address. If she doesn't answer you right away, it will be because she is out on the book tour for Heart Full of Lies until mid-November. her website

Poor Liz hasn't been exposed to class and grace for a long time, especially if she's been hanging with Tina Brown types. It's no wonder she finds Laura Bush refreshing.
