I know there was a retort to this, but I can't seem to find it. Some liberal "friend" of mine e-mailed it to me and I wanted to throw the reply back at him.

You asked a serious question and I gave a flippant response. Here is a serious response after I wasted a great deal of time responding to the idiotic allegations in the email:

Allegation

Response

I attacked and took over two countries.

Islamofacist Terrorists declared war on the US on September 11, 2001.  Any nation that continues to harbor terrorists is our enemy.  Those responsible for the attack were harbored by the brutal dictatorial regime of one country and that regime has been deposed.  The despotic regime of another country flouted the UN and violated several UN Security resolutions for over 12 years before we finally executed the consequences of those violations.  We did not “take over” either country, but have liberated both countries from dictatorial abusive regimes.

I spent the U.S. surplus and bankrupted the US Treasury.

The US Treasury is not bankrupt; and the “surplus” was a projection that is meaningless.  Congress spent the surplus, not the president.

I shattered the record for the biggest annual deficit in history (not easy)!

In absolute terms perhaps, but not as a percentage of GDP.  Also, this “record” deficit has already been reduced, while cutting taxes, through the growth in the economy.

I set an economic record for the most personal bankruptcies filed in any 12 month period.

Personal bankruptcies have been increasing each year since the early part of clinton’s second term, and have accelerated due to the bankruptcy “reform” laws.

I set all-time record for the biggest drop in the history of the stock market.

Another economic distortion. The “biggest drop in the history of the stock market” in absolute terms was far from the biggest percentage change in value of a stock market, which constantly fluctuates up and down.  Irrelevant.

I am the first president in decades to execute a federal prisoner.

Big Deal.  Perpetrators of federal capital crimes should be executed .

In my first year in office I set the all-time record for most days on vacation by any president in US history (tough to beat my dad's record, but I did).

Perhaps this meaningless bit of trivia depends on how one defines vacation, but any of GWB’s vacation days probably contributed more to America’s well-being than the best of clinton’s oval office bl*wj*b days.

After taking the entire month of August off for vacation, I presided over the worst security failure in US history.

Perhaps it was eight years of appeasement and dereliction of duty toward apprehending and disabling terrorists that led to the security failures of 9/11 rather than GWB’s vacation.

I set the record for most campaign fund raising trips by any president in US history.

Not likely.  Clinton was always on fundraising trips, except when he sent algore to Buddhist temples and China to raise funds.  Oh, perhaps some of clinton’s fundraising trips were “called” something else so as not to run afoul of those pesky little election laws.

In my first two years in office over 2 million Americans lost their jobs.

Another legacy of the declining economy GWB inherited from clinton.  It has taken awhile, but the economy is rebounding now.

I cut unemployment benefits for more out-of-work Americans than any other president in US history.

A distortion at best.

I set the all-time record for most real estate foreclosures in a 12-month period.

See “clinton legacy”

I appointed more convicted criminals to administration positions than any president in US history.

Another lie that probably depends on your definition of convicted criminals.  Carter and clinton both have their share of convicted cabinet members.  It will take a while for GWB’s cabinet and other administration officials to catch up to clinton in number of criminal convictions.

I set the record for the fewest press conferences of any president, since the advent of TV.

False.

I signed more laws and executive orders amending the Constitution than any other US president in history.

Presidents can’t sign laws or executive orders amending the Constitution.  And there have been no amendments made during this administration.

I presided over the biggest energy crises in US history and refused to intervene when corruption was revealed.

Nope, that would be Ford and Carter.  The next biggest energy crisis was during the clinton administration.  If you’re talking about the California mess, that was hardly a national energy crisis, but was rather a predictable result of years of bad democrat energy policies followed up by a ridiculously stupid “deregulation” program that allowed wholesale costs to rise but capped retail prices.  Then, when the laws of supply and demand led to their inevitable results, Grayout Davis tried to blame Texas energy companies and GWB for his own screw-ups.

I cut health care benefits for war veterans.

I guess that depends on how you define “cut health care benefits” but most everybody has had their “health care benefits cut” because of the escalating costs, driven higher by out-of-control tort lawyers (democrats’ biggest campaign contributors).

I set the all-time record for most people worldwide to simultaneously take to the streets to protest me (15 million people), shattering the record for protest against any person in the history of mankind.

Irrelevant.  Worldwide protestors have nothing better to do and contribute nothing to society.

I dissolved more international treaties than any president in US history.

Unnecessary treaties with non-existent former countries should be dissolved, especially when the only function they serve is to hamper our ability to develop systems to protect our national security.

I've made my presidency the most secretive and unaccountable of any in US history.

A complete lie.  Perhaps rephrasing with something specific and meaningful might be helpful, but the author of this list of lies obviously isn’t interested in accuracy or facts.

Members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in US history. (The poorest multimillionaire, Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker named after her.)

A distortion, depending on what distorted definitions one uses “richest”.  All cabinets are comprised of wealthy people.  You don’t get appointed by being a middle-class worker.

I am the first president in US history to have all 50 states of the Union simultaneously struggle against bankruptcy.

A lie on several points.

I presided over the biggest corporate stock market fraud in any market in any country in the history of the world.

No, the president doesn’t preside over the stock market or any company’s accounting practices.  Also, the fraud developed over several years under the regulatory practices in place with the previous administration.

I am the first president in US history to order a US attack AND military occupation of a sovereign nation, and I did so against the will of the United Nations and the vast majority of the international community.

Another lie on several points.

I have created the largest government department bureaucracy in the history of the United States, called the "Bureau of Homeland Security"

You blame GWB for “presiding over the biggest security failure in history, but then you complain about his creating a homeland security department. Consolidating the activities of several departments into one department responsible for homeland security is actually a good idea.  Now if we can minimize the federal labor unions’ involvement in this security department (a concept that is anathema to you lying liberal democrats) we might actually be able to detect and deter future terrorist attacks.

I set the all-time record for biggest annual budget spending increases, more than any other president in US history

In absolute terms perhaps but not as a percentage of GDP.  Again, congress controls spending – not the president.

I am the first president in US history to compel the United Nations remove the US from the Human Rights Commission.

No, they did that all by themselves so they could make room for countries like Sudan and Libya on the commission.

I am the first president in US history to have the United Nations remove the US from the Elections Monitoring Board.

The President does not direct the UN’s decisions regarding its various boards.  This action by the UN serves only to further illustrate its hypocrisy and its irrelevance.

I removed more checks and balances, and have the least amount of congressional oversight than any presidential administration in US history.

Hyperbolic Lie.

I rendered the entire United Nations irrelevant.

The UN rendered itself irrelevant.

I withdrew from the World Court of Law.

What is this supposed to mean?  If you’re talking about our refusal to subject our citizens and especially our soldiers to some international kangaroo court, then this is simply a principled stand for our national sovereignty and is another feather in his cap.

I refused to allow inspectors access to US prisoners of war and by default no longer abide by the Geneva Conventions.

We don’t have any US prisoners of war.  We have some enemy combatants who have been detained, and who are being treated much better than they deserve.  Why don’t you talk about the US soldiers who were held hostage by the Iraqi army?  How about the American journalists who were kidnapped and murdered by Taliban sympathizers?

I am the first president in US history to refuse United Nations election inspectors access during the 2002 US elections.

The various states administer their own elections, and there is no reason for the UN to be concerned with our elections.  If previous presidents have allowed some “United Nations election inspectors” access to US elections and GWB is the first to refuse them, then it’s about time we had a president with the balls to tell them to go pound sand.

I am the all-time US (and world) record holder for most corporate campaign donations.

But strangely got very few donations from corrupt labor unions, trial lawyers, extremist fringe groups for abortion, anti-business ecoterrorists, communist party, etc. that fund the democrat party.

The biggest lifetime contributor to my campaign, who is also one of my best friends, presided over one of the largest corporate bankruptcy frauds in world history (Kenneth Lay, former CEO of Enron Corporation).

You’re talking about president clinton’s golf buddy here.  The fraudulent relationships between Enron, Worldcom, etc. and clinton’s treasury department is so thick, you don’t want to go there.

I spent more money on polls and focus groups than any president in US history.

A tremendous lie.  It would take a repeal of the 22nd amendment and 4 terms for GWB to have a chance at catching his predecessor in this category.

I took the world's sympathy for the US after 9/11, and in less than a year made the US the most resented country in the world (possibly the biggest diplomatic failure in US and world history).

A lot of hyperbolic nonsense.

I am the first US president in history to have a majority of the people of Europe (71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and stability.

Who cares what the people in Europe say to a pollster who is conducting a biased, Anti-American poll?

I changed US policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts.

Another lie.

I set the all-time record for the number of administration appointees who violated US law by not selling their huge investments in corporations bidding for gov't contracts.

Another lie on many counts.

I have removed more freedoms and civil liberties for Americans than any other president in US history.

This statement is a LIE.   You cannot cite a single “freedom” or “civil liberty” that GWB or Ashcroft has “removed”.

I entered office with the strongest economy in US history and in less than two years turned every single economic category heading straight down.

This statement is a LIE.  All leading indicators showed that economic growth was declining and the economy was moving into a recession.  The recession started in January 2001 which means the economy was declining for at least six months prior to that.

RECORDS AND REFERENCES:

I refuse to take a drug test or even answer any questions about drug use.

Presidents are not required to take drug tests.  There is no reason for him to answer “questions about drug use”.  Considering the ridiculous statements from the previous president (“I didn’t inhale”), along with the significant number of his close associates with criminal records for involvement with some nasty drugs, you really don’t want to go there.

All records of my tenure as governor of Texas have been spirited away to my father's library, sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.

This is a ridiculous lie.  All records of his governorship that are required to be open are still open and available for public view.  Any records that are “sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view” are private records.  You want some unprecedented right for the public to be able to invade his privacy?

All records of any SEC investigations into my insider trading or bankrupt companies are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.

This is another ridiculous lie.  What investigation into insider trading are you talking about?  There was one “investigation” about a loan and the sale of stock to repay the loan, but the investigation found that there were no violations of any laws and nothing worthy of further investigation.  Also, records of SEC investigations into insider trading or bankrupt companies are typically sealed and unavailable for public view regardless of who is the subject of investigations (it’s those pesky privacy laws that you seem to find so problematic when you want to accuse a conservative republican of corruption.)  By the way, given hillary’s dubious success in cattle futures speculation, this is another very big “YOU DON’T WANT TO GO THERE” scenario.

All minutes of meetings of any public corporation for which I served on the board are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.

Corporate meeting minutes are usually “sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view” as most corporations wish to protect their proprietary information.  You might file this in the “Sun Usually Rises in the East” category of shocking revelations.

Any records or minutes from meetings I (or my VP attended regarding public energy policy are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public review.

Records and minutes that are subject to Open Records laws are open and those that are not are not.  Democrats challenged Cheney on this issue and lost.  This administration has been much more open in all of its dealings than the previous administration.  Again, with all of the scandals and the unprecedented claims of privilege and secrecy that bill and hillary tried to pull, this is another embarrassing “YOU DON’T WANT TO GO THERE” topic for liberal democrats.
