Obama’s Top Strategist Says He’s Already Talked To Nearly Three Dozen 2028 Options For Dems
Daily Wire ^ | November 7, 2026 | Virginia Kruta

A longtime strategist for former President Barack Obama is already looking forward to 2028, saying that he’s spoken to 29 Democrats who are at least toying with the idea of running for president in the next election cycle.

Jim Messina, who managed Obama’s 2012 presidential campaign, laid out his thoughts during an Election Day appearance on Bloomberg TV, where he said that the Democrats’ Tuesday blowout — particularly with regard to the gubernatorial elections in key swing states — changed the presidential map going in to the 2028 cycle.

“If we win the House and the Senate, we will have won it because of rural, more red districts, and so that’s the most important thing,” Messina explained as the votes were still coming in on Tuesday. “I just met with my 29th person who’s thinking about running for President of the United States — 29, just on the Democratic side — so everyone’s kicking tires.”

“When you talk about the map, you’re talking about Texas, you’re talking about Arizona, a state where Barack Obama didn’t compete either time. Georgia, we didn’t compete there either time, North Carolina is now moving blue,” Messina continued. “The map is just much better if we win some of these.”

Democrats did, of course, go on to win many of the races he’d mentioned and then some on Tuesday — but the wide range of candidates who racked up wins in the D column still leaves questions as to which faction of the Democrat Party would have the momentum to run a national campaign.

“We’re going to spend a year fighting out who actually has the mandate — left/center/populist — and then in 2028 we’ll have our answer,” Democrat strategist Lauren Hitt told Axios.

At some point, Obama will stop running the country ... right?

The future looks bright-give them that. The Obama people represent winning. He will keep them from getting in over their heads and taking the party down. How they’ll do it while the DSA/muslims and communists are out there will be the real test.

Of course, by Obama, you mean George Soros.

It’s just days after an election and Democrats are already plotting for 2028? Have they no respect for our President and Republican voters, nor empathy for Americans who have suffered in the wake of 11/3? The democrats never cease to ease on their agenda to defeat our nation.

The one you really should worry about is El-Sayed. Obama is an empty suit, El-Sayed is the real deal: smart, charismatic, and slick. Could even win over a lot of conservatives. There is a great chance he will be President, eventually.

They’ve been lining up 2028 candidates LOOOONG before 11/3/2026.

Nah, he needs to serve in the Senate first for one term before he’ll be ready. 2028 is too soon.

The GOP is finished. No chance in 2028. It’s badly run, and has been for years, no way they can turn it around in time.

“Just days after an election” is always when the next one begins in America. We live in the age of constant campaigns. I Democrats had any respect for Trump, MAGA, or Republican voters, we wouldn’t have had the outcome Tuesday night brought us.

Barack Obama served in the U.S. Senate beginning in January 2005, announced his presidential campaign on February 10, 2007, and won the election on November 4, 2008, after just over two years in the Senate when he announced and nearly four years by Election Day.

Ossoff is another to watch. Any Democrat who can win in Georgia like he did is an automatic contender for the nomination.
